Good thing I never used AOL. However I am about to switch to a better ISP soon my self. I am currently with BELL canada, they are a good ISP but expensive I find.

Well... just phoned AOL and told them to turn me off a day early. Got the cancellation code. Went through the 'why are you leaving' rigmaroll again. Asked them to send email confrmation... just in case...

    I feel... emancipated! :biggrin

Is that because you are cancelling before the end of your current contract? or would they not release it to your new ISP? (if you have one)

I believe that they have to let you have it when you ask for it GBL. I got mine via email as well. I assume the regulator is stamping down hard on all ISPs.

AOL just include a piece in the email saying that, if you are leaving early and owe them money, they will take it using the DD.

Why does your ISP have your MAC? When you say MAC do you mean your actual MAC address? I would think this is something that should be yours and yours alone, not your ISP's.

I would spoof my mac or get a different NIC if I knew they were keeping my mac addy on file.

    Line Attenuation (Up/Down) [dB]: 21.0 / 42.0

Was aiming for 9MB to be honest, free static IP is cool as well 8)

I’ve had AOL until last night (I think), came home from work tonight and plugged in the new “Be Box” and that was it. Easy!

Also they send you text alerts to let you know how your order is progressing.

BE are good. I get (according to my router):

    Bandwidth (Up/Down) [kbps/kbps]: 1,066 / 10,151

One thing I will say though, if you're using BE's router, it's best to run it upside down as the vents are on the bottom and it can get a little bit hot sometimes.

heres a great little tool that one of the Be* members put together, i would also recommend the Be* Members Forums they have great guilds on getting the best from your connection. After 2 weeks(not advised to tweak within the first 2 weeks of activation) you can even use the DMT tool.

I have tryed 3 routers with Be*

    Netgear DG834G - Sync 15284
    BeBox - Sync 17833
    Cisco 877 - Sync 18632

Cheers mate, will probably leave it a few weeks and then play about with the router.

The static IP is handy, might set up an Exchange server for testing. 8)
