Hi guys well if you remember a while back I posted a thread here http://www.certforums.co.uk/forums/showthread.php?t=3591&page=1&pp=15 about maybe getting a job that would have been the perfect entry into I.T. with a good wage...? Well... I didn't get it. But I did not forget this palce and I return with news... ;)

But I did not give up, oh no. On the reccommendation of a friend I phoned up a company called Page Computers, a smallish local company with a stong customer base and asked if by any chance they had a job floating around. To my surprise they said they were lookign for someone and asked me to come round to their house for an interview. Result. :biggrin

I got there and got on very well with the couple who own it, showed my enthusiasm and said that despite having no official qualifications I did know my stuff to a reasonable level and had a good foundation of knowledge to work with. They also liked the fact that I live about 5 minutes away (as did I, heh) and was pretty flexible with no real serious commitments such as wife, kids etc.

Then he showed me round their workshop which is in their garden. It's a high tech workshop with all you would expect a computer building and maintenance company to have, and I found it looked a nice, cosy little place to work. All the quipment was in there without being too clutterest, and they aren't lacking for anything with regards to tools and equipment for testing all manner of devices.

That being done they told me they were interested in me and that they would be in touch if they wanted to take it any further. I waited around 3 weeks and got a call asking me to come back for a 2nd interview/test where they basically asked me to come in and build a computer for them. Despite having an evil cold I did it quickly (aside from forgetting to plug the mouse/keyboard in haha) and there and then he told me I had the job! :biggrin

The salary will be £17'000 which is fair I think for someone with no qualifications or real experience, and my duties will be working solo most of the time building/troubleshooting/upgrading PC's, installing all manner of software, virus cleaning, helping customers over the phone, dealing with customers who bring their computers into the workshop, and last but not least going on-site to local businesses to upgrade/install/troubleshoot PC's as necessary. In other words, the most ideal first I.T job you could wish for!

I'll learn networking as well as a whole plethora of other equipment covering just about everything you can think of that will come in essential for future jobs in I.T. I'll also be learning the admin/paperwork side which will come in very handy if I ever decide to go solo in the future.

I'm very excited and handed in my notice about 3 days ago, my current job is so unbelievably mind-numbing that I think my glee was severely apparent, hah!

So now my foot is firmly in the door i'm going to think about my certs soon and get a strong lineup under my belt and hopefully from here my career can only get better!

    Three cheers for persistence!

Noelg24, Congrats on yours to. I wouldn't be ashamed of that apple job. IT jobs are hard to find right now. Here in the states people kill for those apple jobs.

Cheers people for the kind words, and noelg24 i'm glad you got the Apple job!

Ive been sitting here at work for the last two weeks doing as little as humanly possible, lol, im bored out of my skull and just surf the web all day, it's terrible, i'm just passing time and doing minimal work.

Only two weeks to go starting this friday though... :D
