... that I do (in the interest of IT) than I have ever done.

It is a far, far better (lack of) rest that I go to, than I have ever known.

    My friends, companions...

Tomorrow, I intend to install Vista on my home PC.

A preliminary scan shows that my modem driver will spack out like a footballer on acid, which is probably a merciful thing because if it doesn't, Symantec AV will collapse into a dribbling heap and every evil in the world will be unleashed upon me.

A Pandora's box, if you will.

I tell you this only in case this is my final (ever) visit to the Interweb.

Even if my PC and modem should survive, I shall surely come a cropper at the wrong end of a rolling pin when the missus finds out all her favorites have vanished and iTunes doesn't work anymore.

And lo, she shall cry 'For why? As it was working just verily - and now thee have slain it! Why for could thou not just have left the ba****d alone?' (shouldn't have married a medieval wench - but that's with hindsight).

So if I can't talk to you, I shall be thinking of you all fondly...

    LOL, great read...

Just taken the Vista challenge on my PC and I have to say that was the most painless upgrade of Windows I have ever done. I remember the Windows 95 to 98 upgrades that were an absolute nightmare.

To set the scene I have a PC running XP and I installed XP again so I could dual boot and upgrade the clean install. After upgrading the clean install I was presented with the new Vista desktop with all the toys.

Now I don’t have a clue what Im doing, can I call the helpdesk? :biggrin

I wager you speak in jest my friend, let us know what that wench thinks, once she has merrily chanced upon and conquered mighty Vista's maidenhood. Her hitherto beloved OS will be cast asunder, once aero's transparent is observed 'tis but a matter of time for her to forsake the aged drab XP in favour of it's dapper sprightly successor :joker

    Hmm...

The upgrade advisor doesn't pick up anything too drastic, but when upgrading the install hangs on the first restart.

The loading screen cycles through a couple of times and then just freezes.

I've tried manually rebooting a couple of times, but no help.

I've had to go back to XP to have a think...
