I'm just wondering if anyone here is a CEH? This is ultimately what I want to do once I've got my MCSE and Security +. Wondered if anyone had any advice for me as to how difficult the CEH is? Is it well respected in the field? And could it open any doors for me with regards to IT security roles?

My present role is a Mainframe Operations Team Leader but I am pretty much free to get involved with anything that can benefit my company

I done the course in University, following the exact curriculm for the certification. It's a good course, has a lot of insight into the hacking psyche but the stuff is outdated in my opinion. The reason being is the stuff getting taught is old methods of hacking, but this is due to the nature of security and exploitation, as the get patched all the time. The theory behind it is good but.

Cheers Scott, I've read that somewhere myself. I think hacking and exploits are always going to change rapidly but if the CEH is a good foundation I'll look forward to starting it later this year.

    It's on my to-do list.

I've skimmed over the syllabus for the exam and it all seems somewhat straightforward.
Like Sco0t said, the techniques are outdated but are still valid in the mindset needed for a hacker.

After the CEH if you're going down the security route like me, you would be expected from your role to have standard exploit knowledge, exploits which aren't released to the public yet and be able to create them (obviously giving you a niche in the security market). Easiest way to get hold of these is to hop onto some boards/irc chans. So it might be worthwhile to establish yourself in these sort of 'groups' now, so you do have access to unreleased exploits when the time comes.

    good luck :)

Thanks Dazza, I've got myself set up on that other forum for future posts and stuff like you say. That forum isn't as good as user friendly as this one but its very Security based so ideal for me. thanks
