Well i have had a htc desire and to be honest its very good, but the iphone IS better, i mean the whole package with itunes and the app store, you can also get books etc, everything. One thing i noticed about the HTC desire i had, is that when you multi tasked, the progrmas were a bit laggy to be honest, ive not noticed that problem on the iphone.

As for the reception thats been good as well.

Tell you who i am pretty miffed with, nokia, i think they have gone downhill somwhat, their symbian OS is cack. MY operators just sent me an N8 which i flogged on ebay, the bloke has sent it back and im getting him a replacement, it keeps switching itself off, this is meant to be a common problem with the N8.

But the last few years, i have gone off nokias just because they used to be really robust and durable, i mean i dropped a nokia down the loo once, fished it out (before i peed), and rinsed it under a tap for some reason, then dried it out and it still worked, nowadays if you look at a nokia in a bad way it goes tits up

Tell him not to hold the phone with his fingers and the problem disappears.

Android and HTC Desire all the way, there's not a lot in it at the moment but Googles free market approach and innovation will see Android pull away in the not too distant future. The fact that every manufacturer on the planet bar Apple (and the once great Nokia) is developing an Android range says it all for me, Orange even have an own brand touch screen budget Android phone on 'pay as you go' for £99.

Apple keep claiming they're at the bleeding edge innovation wise but all I see is an expensive bit of kit with a slick interface, perfect for the demographic it was aimed at but not for me thankyou.

I love my HTC Desire. Tempted to get a Galaxy Tab too but I think it's still early days for these devices and the prices are still very high.

The Android Market is great and a lot less restrictive than the Apple store. I loathe iTunes but, based on the out of the box player, the HTC Desire player is rather poor. Although you can always install a better one, Doubletwist for example.

As for books, I have the Kindle app installed on my Desire. It's very useful if my Kindle battery dies on the train and I want to carry on reading; or in conference rooms if the meeting you're in gets dull! I love my Kindle. xoxo

Froyo appears to have killed the lag somewhat since it's last incarnation. It's only going to get better with every release I think.

Oh yeah? What about RIM/Blackberry Devices? and Why would Apple develop a range of Android devices when they develop and design their own Operating System (iOS) for their mobile platforms?

Are people still arguing about which is better? Are we still argiung about Windows vs Macs as well?

It comes down to do you want porn and flash on your phone Yes? dont get an iPhone

other than that I cant really see the difference and its down to personal choice.

I know many people who have the HTC desire and all bar one have had no issues with it what so ever, they are a great phone with a really nice implimentation of the Android OS, and yes I like the HTC sense.

I know almost as many people who have iPhones (myself included) who love the kit, which is very nice and the interface is slick.

As for Matt465's point - Well Android achive market dominance through numbers? probably, but ti wont knock Apple out of the market, if it hasnt happended in the desktop OS arena with MS's 98% share or what ever it is, then I dont think they will kill the iPhone yet.

They aren't going to and Blackberry is aimed at business users who need to be hooked up to their office at all times.

    Android FTW.

I hate Apple as a company, I hate Steve Jobs even more. And if it's possible I hate iTunes even more than the other two put together ...

I would however say that my iPhone 3G which I had until recently and now my iPhone 4 have been the best phones I have ever had. I didn't have to buy either of them as they were both work phones, but very nice piece of kit. Works great with exchange and is also very handy for browsing on now and again. I can't comment on Android phones as I haven't had one, but I do know at least one person who went iPhone 3G to an Andriod based phone, then switch to an iPhone 4.

No offence, but that statement tars a lot of people with the same brush, although I get the underlying message. Flash isn't really the future any more. It hasn't been the future on some accessibility grounds for some time in fact...

I don't like some of Apple's ethics and business practices either, but the same can be said for Microsoft, Google and so on. I just personally think the Android OS is the best out there right now, hence I put my money where my mouth is and bought an HTC Desire. I apologise, I strayed somewhat from the OT there.

An oversimplication to be sure and I aplogise if I offended everyone it wasnt the intent.

Its like the OS discussion I think its horses for courses really, from a strictly objective point of view both platforms have some really good points, some not so good and some down right awful ones, its just which of those is important to you.

Also the Desire is a good phone, its the best of the android ones I have seen, but I prefer the Apple OS, I dont find the restrictions that limiting (perhaps because I own a mac as well thus iTunes not a huge ball ache) so i went for that. Going further all of the major platform have good points, eles they wouldnt have got to where they are. Except Nokia all their products can burn in a firery hell.

I never understand the rabid hate for iTunes some people have. It's the only music player I use now and I'll be really honest for a second and say, iTunes is the SOLE reason I do not pirate music any more, and haven't done since about 3 years ago. The ability to hear a song, quickly put it into the search bar, find it, preview it and then double click and have it and all for 99p. I can say that I have 5206 songs from iTunes, legally purchased. Granted the only time I ever did was when I was a kid and couldn't afford music but I'd like to think it would of converted me anyway.

iTunes rocks (and I'm not a fan boy) I'm not a music head, I just want it all in one place, easy to find, easy to download, easy to organise. I like efficiency and I think that is what Apple try to achieve and do achieve in the majority of their products.

After owning an Android phone for almost 1.5 years, I personally think overall Android is better. iphone is great too, it does exactly what you need it to do without fuss. Tap icon, do whatever, done.

Android offers much more flexibility. Shortcuts, dynamic widgets etc. I think you actually have to own and use an Android phone for a good few months to see what it actually offers. Contrary to what some people think, Android is not overly complicated but I do understand how a user would find the number of options overwhelming.

Just to give you an example. A work colleague couldn't get flash videos to display nicely on the Desire and went out to buy an 3GS  Another common reason to buy an iPhone is because everyone is getting one so I must get one as it must be the best (a colleague said this to me, along those lines). The iPhone no doubt has a great mass appeal. Looks over functionality. Some people are blinded by the genius marketing (or brainwashing :p) from Apple and they are not going anywhere. They will remain as popular as ever, so matter what Google comes up with. Don't forget that Apple have more commercial support if you know what I mean. There are apps from literally everybody. Where are the Tesco, Natwest or any other banking apps etc on Android?
On a side note, why don't Google Android keep some of their stuff exclusive?

No one has really mentioned this apart from one, but one needs to look at the Windows 7 phones as well. I'm considering jumping on the Win7 (HTC one) bandwagon :D Looks very nice I must say.

They have been getting pretty good reviews, and the one person I know with one really likes it and certainly they are worth a look.

Are you using iTunes in windows or OSX? I disliked iTunes in windows as I found it slow and prone to bugs, but on the Mac, unsuprisingly, it is much, much better. My music habits changed when I started using it as well.
