    Hi all

If you had to choose just one Certification that has had the most impact on your career, what would that be?

For me it would have to be my VCP4.1. It was my first VMware course, the vSphere Install Configure Manage course which you needed to be able to sit that exam. I was a Server Engineer at the time and that started my love for VMware technologies which ultimately led me to become an Architect and now to work for VMware. I did other IT certifications, VMware, Microsoft, Ctirix, CompTIA which were all great, but that one was the game changer for my career

    Thanks
    Jim

PS BTW realise that sounds totally biased. It's just the truth for me, honestly

SCJP probably for me as helped me go from C++ developer to Java developer, but really it wasn't essential.

It’s an odd thing isn’t it. I know what you mean. For me mine have often not been essential, but they’ve made me feel like I’m investing in myself, and I liked passing the tests as it improved my confidence

The only cert I have of any value is ITIL so probably that.

I'm going to say my first Microsoft cert as it started me on my quest to my MCSE and a job in IT (which I am still in). Windows 2000 Professional exam number 70-210

I'll never forget my first ever cert, my MCP for passing the XP exam. I was hooked from that point and still have the cert somewhere with Bill Gates' signature on it

Similar to others, I would say my first cert A+ as that led me to take other certs which hasn't stopped since. 40 and counting :)

Hard to say.. the knowledge from all of them combined has been the crucial factor in my career trajectory..

But it would have to my MCSE, specifically my MCSE elective; 70-533 - Implementing Microsoft Azure Infrastructure Solutions.

It was a combination of the knowledge from that cert, plus my linux knowledge that landed me my first DevOps job.

I think it was a huge factor in landing me my current job too, and also a was huge factor in the salary I was able to negotiate. I've basically been given an Azure tenant to look after in spite of never touching Azure in production prior to this job. That would absolutely not have happened without that cert.

MCSE 2003 – was a hard slog looking back (7 exams) – did set me up for some difficult migration project at the time.

I think when I got it, I felt on top of the world when I got my MCSE. Especially because 70-291 had beat me once or twice I think. It used to fascinate me how we'd all have trouble with different exams. Some would breeze the 290, I think I did, but others found that one hard. 291 for me was rock hard
