guys I got the offer letter,

unfortunately my job title will be

    Systems Support Engineer

    I am hesitating now,

I was a consultant in my last role not only by title but I performed the role of a real consultant and I believe going from consultant to support engineer is a huge huge step back title wise, work wise this role is not challenging to be honest even though it will pay me

    8,804.80 GBP

    more than my last role.
I personally believe that it is what you do in a role is what matters not the title

but I hate to break it to you, I hate to break it to you but a lot of organizations judge, if I put remote support engineer as my title and I did the work as a real engineer they will still judge, guys I do not know what to do.

I am very humble for this offer trust me but I feel like I will do my career more harm than good :( and my heart is not in the right place what do you guys think?

Well if your heart isn't in the right place then don't take the role because you won't perform at your best if you don't believe in the role...

Then come back in 6 months time after you haven't been working for all that time and will accept anything.

Mate, you still need to do a lot of growing up, it's a job, they offered you more money than you asked for and they offered the role after the things you did at the last place, I have to be honest with you and say that you may not be so lucky next time and it's just a title.

Lets be fair, Systems Support Engineer at your age is a great thing to be, the salary at your age is bloody awesome (and more than I am earning and I am a senior engineer \ manager) but yet you're still complaining. Man I shudder at your first world problems and am honestly thinking that the only role you're going to be happy with is IT Director at this stage (I jest but damn man, it's only a title and you shouldn't be jumping roles that soon for the title to be an issue).

You really need to have a long hard think and decide if IT is the right thing for you because at the moment I really can't see IT working for you with where your head is right now.

Titles mean nothing, its what you do in your role that counts.

Sometimes you need to take whats on the table. Organizations will judge you if your out of work for 6 months also.
Only you can be sure if you can land a better role, but you do come across as a bit arrogant and over confident.

40k GBP for young person with couple years experience is good deal, especially if its in NZ/OZ with all the extra benefits.

No offence but I think you are a joke! Get off your high horse and get into work.

All this moaning that you have been doing that you have been out of work and so on and so forth, get offered a perfectly good job and you need to ask what to do? Your like a spoilt child who wants EVERYTHING to be exactly as you want. It's pathetic really.

Sorry to be so harsh but I have to be honest. As a previous employer and someone who checked many CV's, I couldn't care less about job titles, I was just concerned with the what work people were doing. Job titles mean nothing, and what might have one title in one company, has a different title somewhere else. It's irrelevant.

Just seems that yet again you are finding reasons to ask silly questions of people on here when you should be big enough by now to make them yourself. Man up and act like an adult, don't want the job don't take it if you are that worried about your precious job title, but if you don't take it then I personally think you would be a complete fool!

I being working in the industry close to 5 years not a couple,

the reason why I get paid that much is because I worked hard for it and took on challenges.

I guess it is just a title, I liked the old title I had of consultant and I did perform the role of a consultant,

    I guess its a title,

I just want things to be perfect

    LMAO

You want things to be perfect? Let me tell you, you may as well end it now because life is going to be cruel to you until the day you die.

Life has a way of treating you like crap even when you do your best, you just have to grin and bear with it and accept that things aren't going to be perfect, otherwise I would be Sergey Brin (or Tony Stark).

I'd take it. You can then move into a consultant role within that company hopefully. I'm not sure if that's a good salary for your location but it sounds like a fairly good salary for the UK.

I think you guys are taking this the wrong way,

for me a title is a title but I don't hire my self

I am very concerned that when I go out into the job market in the future because I had the title of system support engineer people are going to think that I did helpdesk work (nothing wrong with this) but that's not what I do and that they might think I cant do something that's higher up like senior engineer or architect or technical lead even though I have the experience for it.

I also don't want people to think I am going backwards as my last title was consultant ( I actually did perform the roles of a consultant)

that is why I am brining this up cause I am concerned.

I don't know what to do cause I specialised in o365 and these guys want me for that but my title is crap and they are paying me good

or should I take a risk and reject the offer and wait for a perfect role to come with the correct title and the bigger money

I being unemployed for 4 months already and financially I am fine, I just want a happy ending

also jk2447 they don't have the title of consultant in their organization structure. Even though my title is system support engineer I will be performing the roles of a consultant in the 0365 space only like doing the design work, statement of work then the migration work. I will also do break fix and project implementation work for the wintel stuff but I wont be a consultant in those areas.

I think you've just answered your own question there mate. So Aushus, why did you go from consultant to engineer? Answer: I did consultancy work, the firm just didnt have that job title. The end.

Out of interest, just so I can get a feel for what you're looking for. What title and salary, realistically would you like? I must admit I've not heard anyone come up with this argument before so I am finding this thread an interesting read. I'm not sure if I agree or do not agree but its interesting.

Job title by and large makes little to no difference when you do eventually move on.

In my last role my title changed 3 times in 2 years due to organisation changes and company restructuring. Pay stayed the same, work stayed the same and I didn't loose any sleep over it!

I get where you are coming from Aushus you have a great attitude, you know your stuff, you have years of experience, on here you come across great so you deserve a good job title I think you might even deserve a bit more than 40K a year, but your current job title is"unemployed" so anything is better than that so I would go for the job and see how things go.

On another note @SimonD I assume you were joking on him getting paid more than you!
