    And a sports fan is definitely NOT a "rooter". :rolleyes:

    Route (root) is a path, rout is a panicked retreat in battle. When a postman runs his route(root), he is en-route (root) (from french) to the post office. Finally don't you call it Route (root) 66 ?

    Maybe the french origins are why it's pronounced that way. I guess its all bonkers...

    Since we've started talking about cooking - the one that always makes me want to eat my own ears is risotto.

    It's ri-sot-to (or if you're Italian, ree-zawt-taw), yet every week on Hell's Kitchen USA it becomes ri-so-do.

    I know it's only a plate of soggy rice but still...

    According to Wik, when the letters were originally chosen, it was intended that SCSI be pronounced 'sexy'... but 'scuzzy' was the one that caught on.

    they pronounce *route* wrong here too sadly, same as the misguided Americans, they think it's pronounced rowt.
