True, in saying that you need to be able to do the job before a contact is taken on. A contract may be an Exchange server migration but you need to be able to do that so you can quote a realistic timescale for the project and costs.

Granted some things always crop up during a migration which adds to the experience pool of knowledge!

You're not far off millionaire material just HAVING a job in Liverpool ;)*couldn't resist*

but in seriousness, I'm on 14.9k PA working for the Council at a High School, not that it bothers me, I can live on that much easily with enough to do what I want when I want, so I took it for the years worth if experience I'm gaining at said School, and it's coming in thick and fast. Although I feel just for the sheer amount of work I'm doing, I should be on a higher wage. There are 2 of us between a 1500 people school (teachers and staff) and I've found my self doing stuff my Network Manager doesn't know how to do.

    Tut tut tut ha ha

I think you've got a good attitude mate. A Wage is just a number and as long as it works for you who cares how much it is. I'm on a certain wage but after I've paid all my bills, car etc I'm probably left with less money I can P*** up the wall than yourself so its all relative I think. The experience you are gaining will be worth its weight on gold in a few years and I don't doubt you could earn quadruple that if you wanted to leave your current role.

Exactly my point, a lot of people simply want a wage without thinking about the mid/long term. I know a year in this kind of environment is pretty much priceless, I'm pretty the assistant network manager as there are only two of us haha, i've just turned 20. I'm about to put in the schools only backup solution into place by my self as the network manager isn't to clued up about backup solutions and I Have a bit of knowledge of it learned from my previous job. So that is quite a big responsibility.

In general I'm pretty much trying to push through some standards and procedures that I learned from my last job that have been missed here. So will look good on my CV and hopefully get me a good reference at the end of it.
