Thanks for the warm welcome guys.

You all seem to be knowledgable people and seem to have a good laugh here.

I now have all of the study material i need for self-studying A+ and am hoping to get certified by July (good target?)

I then am hoping to go onto N+ and maybe look at other CompTIA courses or go straight onto MCSA, MCDST or MCSE.

One step at a time though, and on with the A+ i go

I do have a question about Career Development Loans (CDL) if anyone had knowledge in them?

I know that if i go through a training group such as Pitmans, learn direct etc... then i can get the CDL to cover all of my fees.

Can i get the CDL to cover my fees if i self-study?

As this is what i will be doing and was hoping that the CDL would cover my exam costs as well as funding an old computer for me to rip apart and work on and maybe stick MS 2003 on it.

Would this cover this or can you only get a CDL if you go through a training group instead of self-study?

I think that sounds like a realistic target but at the end of the day it's your own experience and self discipline that will dicate how fast you go and if you think you are ready.

If the material feels like a brush up on areas you were already very familiar with then you may be able to take it sooner. All depends really.

Welcome to CF! yeah july looks like a good target... if you find you know the stuff you could just brush up on exam specific and get it earlier!

I'm pretty sure you can't get a CDL if you self-study as the training centre has to fill a bit in.
It may be worth asking at CAB or the job centre to see if there are any local 'get back into work' type loans or funding available.
