Hi all hope you are all well,
Not sure if im in the correct section for this as couldnt really see a section that this would fall into apart from this one.
As part of my foundation degree i have been asked to do an assignment on computer crime and wondered if anybody fancied giving there 2 cents on what aspects i should do it on and if anybody had any decent links to give me some more info and research. I was thinking maybe the history of how computer crime came about and how it has developed but not sure, any suggestions would be appreciated

    thanks

    Hi roost3r,

Is there any more information you could give us about this assignment? i.e. more specific requirements of the assignment?

Computer Crime / Security is a HUGE topic, and although you have mentioned looking at how computer crime started I think that some more details maybe needed before we can really help.

Other than that simply try googling things like computer crime or history of computer crime.

EDIT: I'll also add in that I have a personal interest in this as I've been told that I've got an assignment coming up on computer security!

i've also got a fair interest in this subject but what is it you're asking mate?

are you doing crime as in scamming, laundering money etc?
dodgy internet surfing, or actual hacking?

keep us posted on how it pans out mate! :tongue

I would start by explaining what computer crime is.
Then history and when it started.
    How quickly it has developed.
Talk about the different methods of computer crime in detail.
    Countermeasures.
    Include some real life cases.
    What the sentences were etc

I havent wrote anything like this since High School so... :blink

    As for links mate. AntiOnline

I'd say that Neills suggestion is pretty much perfect!

He's even given you a great way to structure your assignment!

Hey how about Gary McKinnon, he broke into top US agency networks looking for proof of the US government's knowledge of extraterrestrials.

Or how about the kid who hacked into Paris hilton's mobile phone records and stole all her numbers (of other celebrities and movie stars) and then posted them on the net.

You would also need to look into 'so-called criminals' who didn't get convicted because of the UK laws.

A search for the barrister Alister Kelman may produce results.

He has also been linked to the problem of 'phantom' withdrawals from ATMs, which, IMHO, is also relevant to the subject.

    This is a *huge* subject!

    Regards,

    Harry.
