    I still love the idea of home based labs, even with something like the NUC it's more than possible to do it at home easily.

    I looked at Azure before going down the physical build route but I had two distinct issues:

    1) The costs didn't really add up, running a few VMs with storage for a couple of hours a night would have cost the same as what I paid for my physical rig over a 3 year period.
    2) Azure doesn't support nested hypervisors, so any kind of virtualisation training would be out of question.

    You caught my attention with the MSDN Subscription but to get $150 of credit I'd need to register for Visual Studio Ultimate Subscription which is £11,235.

    This is it John. Vanilla setups Azure seems great but who wants that, we want nested, heavily unsupported environments because we are support specialists in our own right. We know it's not industry standard, we mere want to emulate bigger corporate environments at a fraction of the cost because there are no actual users other than us. That's my two cents anyway. For that reason kit at home is the best choice...

    Yeah I have that, but you don't necessarily get client licenses.
