    Yes I hear the sniggers.

So I am using my internetc connection now and am getting the full 2 meg download speed I am paying for.

When I go to AOL it comes up saying I have no modem installed, I tried the usual unplugging the router for a while & swapping the ethernet cable and ports.

I then got on to AOL tech support by Live chat, the guy told me to remove the software and then reinstall, so I removed it but when I install the software it goes through the whole router setup and it stops at can't find ethernet connection.

This is quite weird as there hasn't been any changes or anything and it's also weird that I can still get on the internet and still get what I am paying for.

I don't actually use the AOL software because ir's **** and there's no need in it but I do look at the email from time to time, I use my other email account instead of AOL.

Sorry for the long post, Anyone got any ideas?

Just use AOL webmail, or you can use IMAP\POP3 with Outlook if needed.

done  did you ever get this? The guy I spoke to on live chat was hinting that the router must be knackered but I doubt that as I told him 10 times I can get on tinternet using firefox and IE and am getting full speed etc.

Zen internet, best ISP in the uk, little bit pricier around 20-30 a month, but worth it.

It'd be difficult to go downhill from where you are with AOL. :p

Perhaps replace the router to get away from the crappy USB one.

If you get a decent ADSL router with four port switch you can patch your PC in and the AOL software connects using TCP\IP, no ‘detecting router’ BS or anything like that.

How can you not get Zen? Their main service is standard ADSL which will work at any exchange that is ADSL enabled. So if you have ADSL already, then you can get Zen. What you can't get is their LLU, which is extremely rare in any case because they didn't enable many exchanges for it.

I'd highly recommend Zen, they're the best ISP I've ever had and I've no idea why I'm not with them right now.

I'm currently with Bethere and having a rough time! I signed up almost 2 months ago now and apart from the first 2 weeks they've been rubbish. High ping times during peak hours and last night they were having DNS problems - fun. Apparently a fix is on the way.. Only taken them 6 weeks to announce this, we'll see how long it actually takes for the resolution.
