Help needed qith XP pro and network!!

    Interesting - that article specificaly mentions ICS. In this case ICS should *not* be on, or there is some unmentioned reason that it is on.

    I'd suggest checking that ICS is not in fact on.

    agree. i actually assumed that it was off in the first place. maybe i shouldn't. :cheeseyg

    Ok lets see now... I turned ICS option in firewall to a client of ICS/NAt gateway running zonealarm pro. Looked in workgroups again.. and yes there are 2 pcs listed....and i can access the good PC from the old BAd one lol... so seems it was the firewall settings then stopping it. Will have to check on good pc now with firewall on.... OOPS nope cant access the bad pc from good one. and now the bad one wont connect lol. Any ideas how i configure the firewall on the good pc???? the same option stops the network connection from working

    What about the network card... could be faulty on the bad machine? perhaps?

    Don't think so - I think its a muddle of settings which are conflicting.

    ICS must be off! You do not need it in this case!

    The firewall should be set to allow the local network access.

    OK solved it... Good pc couldnt access bad pc on network due to firewall....Had trusted zone security set too high.. stops all sharing even on local network.. Seems to be working now.. DAMN FIREWALLS lol.... least it'll help with the N+ exam i plan to take at end of march lol.

    Thanks for all the help and quick replies fellas... Glad i found this forum lol.... Now can someone sit the exam for me?? plz??? :oops:
