    Hi,

My name is Dan, I'm from Basildon Essex and i am 18. I have just joined up with Advent Training and i am doing their Advanced Networking Specialist course. The qualifications i will get once complete are as follows:

    CompTIA A+
    Microsoft Certified Professional (MCP)
Microsoft Certified Desktop Support Technician (MCDST)
    Microsoft Certified Systems Administrator (MCSA)
    Microsoft Certified System Engineer (MCSE)
MCSE: Security on Windows Server 2003
MCSE: Messaging on Windows Server 2003

I only recieved my first module last wednesday so have only just started. The total for the course was a hefty £5950. They state that the course should take approximately 3 years but i am aiming to do it in 2!
I am about to start my A+ already and i only started 5 days ago lol!

I tend to push myself to try and achieve whatever i want in life and i aint afraid of taking risks. After reading some of the info on the website it seems that not many people know alot about advent training so i will try my best to keep you all updated as my course goes on.

ps - ive just read what i have put, and honestly i don't normaly write like that :D

Hi & welcome to CF :)

How many year experience do you have in IT?

And that doesn't mean at level 1... Higher leve professional certifications are there to reflect your experience and not a substitute for it.

Me personally I would have spent the £5k on a MSc and get that done in two years and just recommended you to do the A+, Network+ and the MCDST first of all. However since you've signed up already good luck...

I agree with Wagnerk but since you have already signed up, not much you can do at this point. I would recommend that you look into getting at least a part time job in 1st line support, or look for volunteer work to give you some experience, certificates are there to supplement your experience not replace it. Best of luck mate.

Best of luck with the studies, although I fear you may not realise what you have just signed up for.

Are you aware of how many exams you'll need to pass to achieve them certs? If you want to finish in 2 years, you'll be passing an exam near on every 2 months, with no experience? Its not going to be easy to say the absolute least, no matter how motivated or intelligent you are.

As already stated, a job in IT would really help; having them certs and no experience will only end in tears.

Sorry if this sounds pessimistic, it's just my opinion.

I do wish you the best of luck, and of course we are here to help you when needed. :)

    Welcome:)

    good luck

can I just point out that having high level certs like the MCSE and no experience can go against you when looking for a job.

Certifications like the MCSE are to show your experience working (in a real job) in those areas ofcourse advent wouldn't have told you that though.

NightWolf, welcome to CF! hope u achieve what you are aiming for, 18 is an excellent age to start, i wish i could have done that as well. Make sure you work side by side as well so that ur aware of real life scenarios in IT industry.

Tiony, I think ****** is dump (as in the give real exam questions in order to make u pass) definitely not legal. thats something I am against but then again thats only my opinion. My advise to NightWolf would be study hard and pass exam rather than go for these types of sites and pass....

It's a braindump, don't use it; it's a form of cheating. Once caught you can be decertified and banned from any future exams. You can also face legal action against you.
