    Hi everyone,

Can i just say that having only found this site the morning i already feel it has been of use.

I'm a very confused 38 year old who has worked for himself since i left school and am looking for a career change. I enjoy life but my current job(it having changed so much in the last 5-10 years) is just not doing it for me, so fancy getting in to IT as it seems a growing part of everyday life, i've had one meeting with a guy from one of the big training companys and have another one on monday, it looks to me though that they might well not be the answer so any advise welcomed.
I have ordered the books A+ Certification All-in-One Exam Guide, Sixth Edition (All-In-One) and PC Technician Street Smarts: A Real World Guide to CompTIA A+ Skills which seem to be recommended as being useful. I know that starting at the bottom is the only way forward and that there are loads of different parts of IT but everybody has to start somewhere.

The two books you have chosen are the best for the A+, if you can get an old PC to practice taking to bits and putting back together.

You don't need to go with a training company you can do this by self studying as all a training provider will do is charge you lots of money & give you some books to read and the odd workshop.

If you want to do a course look at your local college and see if they do the A+/

    Any queries just ask.

    Welcome to CF :)

Sounds like your 38-year-old wisdom is working for you... you are approaching this career change with the right mindset. :)

With the books you've purchased and some self-study, you'll be well prepared to take the A+ exams and get an entry-level IT job.
