i've just discovered this website - looks great !!
i'm currently a music technology teacher and fancy a career change, i have a basic knowledge of computers through tinkering with my own computer and setting up school computers to work with music software ( sound cards etc. )
It seems that comptia a+ is the best qualification to start with and have contacted my local college but their courses only start in september (if i can get a place !) and i want to get started asap.
is it possible to get any self-learning books, cd's, dvd's etc. that would enable me pass the exams and which are the best?
    thanks all !!
    Pablo

    Welcome!

You don't need a college course - you can do it all by self study if you want. I always recommend Mike Meyers A+ All-in-One Study Guide 6th Edition and James Pyles PC Technician Street Smarts.

    Hi and welcome to CF!

And another vote here for the books mentioned. I used the Mike Meyers book (the other hadn't been published then) to pass the A+ without going on a course.
