I've just joined the forum and I thought I'd introduce myself.

I work in IT support at a local school. It's a smallish network - less than 100 units, single NT4 server etc. - running a mix of 98 XP Pro.

I've started to consider getting my certs, at the ripe old age of 32! I think I'll be aiming for an MCP and go from there. I've also started looking at A+ / Network+ but I'm a little unsure if they'd be of any great use - so I'll probably be pestering you guys with loads of Q's.

That's about it really!

Hi Karl and welcome to the forums. There seems to be a few of you guys here working in the education area. The others will be along shortly so look around and make yourself at home. If you can make it chat's are on thursday nights and are mostly a free for all madhouse. Anyway once again welcome.

 

Welcome to Certforums, Karl. Glad you made it. Given your experience, you may consider just skipping and A+ and Net+. You sound like you're already experienced as a hardware and network technician. Since you manage an NT 4.0 network, the MCP might be a good starting point for you. I imagine by now you've visited Microsoft's cert site or some other resource and scoped out the requirements for an MCSA/MCSE. If you'd like to hone your Active Directory skills, I write a QOTD for the 70-294 exam in the MS forum. Feel free to participate.

Since you are experienced with NT, you might be able to answer a query I posted in the General MS forum about upgrading from NT to Windows Server 2003. I came across some errors I don't understand when I tried it (I run a virtual network lab in VMWare so it's quite versatile).

Hope you enjoy the place. Feel free to ask any question you'd like. We'll all pitch in and help if we can.
