I got up to wave 51.

Equipment List:

1. 8 Lightning Towers - Level 5
2. 5 Plasma Cannons - (2 x Level 5, 3 x Level <5)
3. 8 Ice Cannons - Level 5
4. 5 Flamethrowers - Level 5
5. 2 Machine Guns - Level 4

Ok, building the second bank of Lightning Towers helps more than building a Light Tower and Void Tower (The "technical term" for "Dark" Tower). However, even with two banks of Lightning Towers, they still tend to get "distracted" elsewhere. So I'm going to build a bank of Lightning Towers on the "final stretch" before the final turn to the "server."

Yee haw! I got to wave 51 and Completed the Hard level!

Since I lost track of the development of the units, here's just the count of units:

1. 16 Ice Cannons
2. 19 Flamethrowers
3. 16 Lightning Towers
4. 9 Plasma Cannons
5. 2 Machine Guns

Key things I stayed away from were the Light Tower and Void Tower. They are definitely a big waste of time to build and develop. So just like those "Public Service Announcements" against drugs, "Just say No [to Light Towers and Void Towers]."

Although not as exciting as when I saw "Congratulations" at the end of the 640-801 CCNA exam, the "Congratulations" at the end of this Hard level is definitely a satisfactory feeling.

Off I go to beat my head up against the next level higher.

 

I'm on the Very Hard level.

I got up to wave 12.

This is definitely a different animal than Hard level.

 

Yeah, that was sweet, wasn't it ?

Anyway I've cracked the very hard level.

The way to beat this level is to know exactly where to site your machine guns at the beginning. Once you've got that sorted, you're okay. Took me several tries to figure it out. The secret is to site your first couple of machine guns about three squares under the first bend where they'll have a 270 degree field of fire as the viruses enter the bend and as they depart. Increase the number machine guns as needed until you can afford your first flamethrower and then take it from there.

 

Cracked it!

It definitely requires a different method than the first two levels - as Headache said, the placement of the machine guns right at the beginning is the key. I thought I had 'em right before, but moving them a couple of squares makes all the difference. Also, light towers & void towers really make a difference at this level - i concentrated everything on that long middle corridor and stuck with flamethrowers and ice cannons until about level 28 - then started flogging flamethrowers and buying & maxing out the high-cost weapons, then found that some of the little baskets were still getting through (don't think you can get enough ice cannons into the middle bit) so I placed a mass of light towers later on - quite near the 'server'. That did the trick.

Impossible is, well, basically, what it says: 'Impossible'. Without finding a cheat somewhere, or disassembling the flash file and doing something exciting with it I don't think its possible to get past about level 12.

 

Have to agree with zebulebu on that one, Arroryn. Impossible is nigh well impossible. Wouldn't stop me trying though.
