Gung Ho or Cherry Pick?

Recently I have become very disheartened about my job. Its got to a point now where its actually a struggle to get up and come in (I still do come in don't get me wrong). Numerous reasons for this, lack of opportunity (I am based in London, everyone else in Leeds), etc etc.

So I have been looking for new roles. I'm looking at Networking roles, or Sec Ops. When you are looking for a new job, do you go Gung Ho and apply for everything, or do you Cherry Pick?

I find that I am kinda in the middle. Anything for say Level 1, or Level 2, I apply for, even if I don't have the qualifications. Reason being thus:

• If its a recruitment agent, they may see I am interested and have something else on their books.
• If its a company, they may look at my CV and think we will give him a shot.

I ditch the roles that don't pay what I want or look like an absolute nightmare.
Everything else I apply.

 

Agreed. Filter out anything under X amount and X miles outside of London.

 

I am biding my time but also applying for the higher paid roles. Im still 1st line but do a lot of second line stuff but get the 1st line wage.

I also feel like I am getting stale where I am and think I need a new challenge.

I need to push myself a lot more certification wise, which would help
