    Hello all.

I have a very old PC. It has a 1st gen i7, 4 core, 2.6GHz with maxed out RAM at 16GB.

I'm looking to give it a new GPU but obviously the CPU is a limiting factor on what this machine can achieve.

In short, what do you think would be the highest spec card worth buying before the CPU becomes a bottleneck?

I don't mind spending a few hundred on the GPU but I'm sure I'm not going to get value for money putting a £900 gpu in it.

FYI I don't play massively demanding games, fallout 4, skyrim, medieval dynasty etc...

    Thanks all.

    Hey buddy

I think a gtx 1060 is about as powerful as is worth putting in that older machine. You can get around 60fps in 1080p with that on Skyrim. All of that said you can probably buy a second hand gaming laptop on eBay for buttons now. An older dell xps or Alienware that will do a good job of those older games

I'd agree with Jim, a 1060 is probably as good as you're going to get, I run a 1660 Super in an older i7 3770K and it's about the limit there.
