Right, lets get serious because my 2010 goals were a major fail! Realistic goals for 2011 are as follows:

    • Rejoin the gym and attend 2-3 times a week.
    • Do the Commsupport CCNA course then become a CCNA
    • Change job yet again to become purely a Wintel or Network Support person
    • Upgrade MCSE to MCITP:EA
    • Gain Citrix CCA ..... or not depending on what I end up doing
    • CEH but this is purely for me, not my career or to become an l33t hax0r, its just something I'd like to pass
Fingers crossed all that isn't too much, I can drop the last two if needed but I'm thinking it may be wise to upgrade my MCSE while there's no pressure to do it i.e. before they think about retiring the two upgrade exams (long time off I'm sure but you know what I mean).

**Edit: Oh yes, I'm getting a 3G Kindle for Christmas so a lot more reading next year for sure

    Well let see then:

2010 targets were revised a little, still active in sig, on the cert side just the Security+ Exam to go on Dec 18th, then completed.

As for 2011, let us consult the great CPD plan, and the answers are... (and as Jk said, trying to be realistic)

    2011 IT Certs: 70-291, 70-680 = MCSA Completed | 70-648, 70-646 = MCITP Server 2008 Administrator (Upgrade)
2011 IT Targets: Build Linux From Scratch (if not done in 2010) | Learn Visio | Setup a proper vitualised test environment
2011 Work Targets: Land a job in the UK (depending on Canadian visa's) | Create better documentation templates
    2011 Non IT Targets: Read [0/24] | Write [0/12] | Blog [0/52] | Photoshoots [0/24] | Learn to Brew (Beer this time)

For the sake of the signature I've limited the Non-It Targets to shortened versions, for those interested Read = reading fiction books - aiming for two/month, writing = creative writing pieces - aiming for one/month, blog = blog posts - aiming for one/week, photos = processing older photoshoots - aiming for two/month. I think the beer brewing is pretty self-explanatory!

Might try and fit in these as well, but that's all dependant on timescales etc, I think four is enough to start with:

MCTS: Windows Small Business Server 2008, Configuring Exam (70-653)
    MCITP: Windows Server 2008 R2 Virtualisation Administrator Exams (70-693) (70-659) (70-669)

Hmmn, yes, be more realistic - good idea !

    Ok then :

    • Submit portfolio for CMALT
    • Try to gain Qualified Teacher Status (QTS)
    • Complete Assessor & Internal Verifier courses

I think that will do to be going on with.

Maybe some IT certs if I have time

Well here are my goals for 2011:

    Work/Career:

Complete the MCSE - I still have three exams to do before the end of June! Then take a break!
Complete the MCITP:SA upgrade exam by October
    Start Studying for MCITP:EA exams

    Personal:

    Finish paying off debt
Get a new car - Well a used car... Don't want to make the same mistake again by purchasing a new car and not saving up
Continue going to the gym and hit my goals!

That's about it, I'll probably add to as the year goes, we all know how that is. Actually I'd be really happy is if I complete my MCSE.

My goals for the next 12 months:

    1. Pasma Training/licence

For work, due to contracts we have.

    2. Start a level 7/Masters level qualification

    Provided I have the finances.

    3. Get basic teaching qualification (eg PTTLLS) and/or another trainer's qualification

    Again for a work project.

    4. Passing the Apple Certified Support Professional (ACSP) 10.6 (or 10.7 when it goes live) exam

At the moment I've had enough of Microsoft Certs.

Big year next year (for me)

Assuming I pass the 70-291 and N+ this December - (all paid for and hitting the books) I really need to get my grubby hands on the uber cool MCSE (in 3 exams before march). I also get to finish my Part Time BSc (Last year this year - just the final sprint and I'm done :D ).

Get a new job (one that pays a decent salery and where I'm not everyone's IT Salve - just because it has a plug on the end doesn't mean I broke it, and no I don't delete your files from your network space just to annoy you and have you come to my desk stamping your feet and shaking your fist, and ask me once more about why you cant access youtube whilest in work and i'll take this monitor and shove it up your a***) :dry

    Non IT related
Finish installing the new kitchen
Finish decorating the spare room ready for baby in March
Sell my house and buy another one in a better area (away from all the chavs) - depends on new job. :(

Enjoy christmas 2011 without any studying or DIY. :biggrin

Certification plans for 2K11, so far:

    - 70-680: Configuring Windows 7 Should be ready for it in january. Halfway through the book already, isn't that much of a difference compared to the Vista material.
    - CCNA: Finish the CCNA by passing ICND2. Shouldn't be any later than march 2011.

Not sure about what to do after that. Possible options are the MCSA, CCNA:security, Linux+ and Security+.

This year has been a bit lackluster for me due to planning a wedding (this time in two weeks I'm off the market) and a third daughter. Next year I would be very happy if I was well on my way to upgrading my MCSA to MCITP:SA/EA, another course or two towards my degree, and a whole load of infrastructure changes to plan in my new role.

And of course keeping the new mrs dales happy two goes in that list somewhere!

I got most of what I wanted to do done in 2010 but had a big issue in being made redundant so my goals are:

Leave contracting and get a full time job

VCP sometime before May (pushed back a few times but course is paid for)

I know it's not good to not set specific goals... but I think I'm just gonna keep doing what I've been doing. I've got a lot on my plate already, so maintaining what I'm already on top of will be challenge enough! :) I don't have a burning desire to add anything more... if I did, I'd probably burn out! :blink

Maybe my goal in 2011 will be to do less... to just take a step back and simplify. :hhhmmm
