    Hi All,

Keep up with our tradition here on Certforums, it's now time for that thread that makes us think of what we want to achieve next year and take stock of what we did or didn't do this year.

So with this in mind, what are you goals next year and how have you progress with your goals this year?

    Me:

    This year stock take
    1. Some sort of Project Management cert... Passed the M815 Project Management course from the OU
    2. Microsoft Certified Educator... Have stopped this, as this is no longer relevant to me now
    3. Maybe new job... I'm happy where I am

    2016 goals
    1. Gain my 2nd Dan in Tang Soo Do
    2. Gain my PostGraduate Diploma in Tech Management

I'm moving abroad to the US next year, so will probably be taking a year off from the certs to get the ball rolling in my new job.

However, this year's been good. Got my MCTS in ConfigMgr and MCSE Private cloud

Well done guys. Sounds like you've both achieved a lot this year. I must admit I love this thread because it let's you set expectations for yourself for the year ahead.
This year I achieved a lot in terms of getting to grips with a new role. On the job training etc. Cert wise very poor but I struggled to study and work as I have really put the hours and effort into my job this year. Next year however is going to be a different story.
    2016 goals are:
Sit a vmware exam to renew my status. Not sure which one yet. Will depend on what training materials or courses I can get from work.
Sit the last two mcse 2012 exams. Shameful I know with it being 2016. I highly doubt I'll ever sit Microsoft exams again after that but never say never.
I'm not entirely sure if this is achievable yet but I would love to get a CCDA. So I'll need an icnd or CCNA first. Thinking this might be a big ask but we will see.
I'm on a local Spanish course starting in January. A council run thing so will be nice to keep that ticking over and meet new people.
I think that's pretty much it. Oh, of course try to buy another house. I want to ultimately replace IT with property but I'll likely be dead before I can pull that off ha ha
    Cheers
    Jim

Same here @jk2447, I haven't done any real certs in a long while... Got my MCSA 2012 and no desire to gain my MCSE 2012, may do the 2016 MCSA when it comes out, but really no rush for that either...

    For 2016:

    CCNA Security
    F5 201

In addition, I would like to complete an entry level course on penetration testing. Not necessarily looking to get a cert out of this; just want to learn the basics out of curiosity. In order to protect the network, you must know thy enemy!

I think a lot of us who've sat Microsoft exams for years are thinking the same thing. I've got an mcse. I'm not overly worried about having the latest version. I don't suppose anyone knows if there are any upgrade tracks to 2016? You might be onto something there Ken

Apart from the more obvious pen testing certs like CEH, OSCP etc. these two cover some nice basics and are not meant to be too intensive:

    Metasploit
    Ethcial Hacking

    Certifications: A few.

Thanks Rob, the EXIN Ethical Hacking Foundation exam looks good. Just need to find video / book resources to study from. Haven't found any yet.

I thought I would of had the A+ by now but that has not happened yet. so next year i'm really going to go for it and do the following:

    A+
    N+
    Security +
Maybe try to bash out one or two Microsoft or Cisco certs

I'm still in two minds at the moment aswell as I'm not sure if I want to go down the Network or Security career path.

My first aim is Windows 10 MCSA . They have just announced it today and the two Windows 8.1 exams are part of the certification and there is one more exam that you need to get the MCSA.

Talk about timing, my objectives have just this second changed ha ha.
    • 2015:
      • Failed the 70-680 which in turn really affected my confidence for the Network+ and Linux+ which I wanted to do. As well as the 70-686.
      • July, I managed to wrangle a new job (Totally out the blue, and I thought I didn't stand a chance of getting it anyway),
      • Started in September and passed Probation a week early so that's all good.
    • 2016:
      • Linux+ as no-one in my team is Linux certified and as I am the only IT covering the London offices, I NEED this.
      • Network+ as I need to improve my networking skillset,
      • I have just been informed that for me to touch our switches, I need to have a CCNA. So that has just been added to my objectives.
      • On a personal note, I am already learning to code in Python which is great fun.
Looks like I have quite a busy 2016 lined. That should take my mind off getting married in December next year ;)

I can't remember if I polluted this thread last year... But I actually did what I intended this year - MCSA svr 2012 and an Exchange MCITP.

At the moment I am trying to pick up Python and my main obj is to stick with it far enough that I actually make use of it. Realistically I will probably downgrade to Powershell, which is much more important for me, but mildly dull.

I'll probably certify on some stuff - whichever seems most pressing out of Exch 2013, Office 365, Citrix, or VCP I imagine. Although now I want to do that Metasploit thing, because that seems much more fun.

I may not have finished with MS certs yet. But I have cracked the spine on the last of my MS Press books, I am completely fed up of studying just towards the exam only to realise I haven't learned anything of practical value for 3 months.

As ever, this will also be the year I finally write my First Great Novel (an event that has been predicted more times than the Year of Linux on the Desktop).

So next year my goals are as follows.

VCP6 if I don't manage it this year (yes I have a couple of weeks to go). Passed that today :)
VCAP's (DCD / DCA and VCIX NV).
I may also look at the VCP CMA (Cloud)
Linux+ and perhaps the LPIC1 as I need to strengthen my Linux skills.

I doubt very much I will be going down the Microsoft route of exams ever again.

Lets see, now's the time to see where things fell over due to general life:

MCSA 2012 - didn't progress past the first have of 70-410.

Other 2015 positives though: got health issues under control, finished settling back into the country

    2016 Goals (keeping it simple):

LFCS - already got the course / exam on the anniversary discount and time limited until Aug 2016 so this is a must.

Got the 685 booked for January just in time for the second shot. So hopefully get that. Then onto MCSA: server 2008. I'm thinking if I can get 640/642 done by June, then I'll do 689 before it retires in July, then move onto the 646. If time permits before the end of the year I'd like to get linux+/security+ too. Then onto CCNA, But I think 2017 is a more realistic timeframe for that.
