keeping my job is number one priority due to constant cuts, but at the same time I will continue to study for the Google Apps Administrator online course I have started looking at as well as giving the Network+ another go. Once Windows 10 is out to the real world, I will see how it's taken on general release and then look at taking a Windows 10 client exam.

Certifications: compTIA A+, Apple Certified Technical Coordinator 10.10 (OS X Yosemite, Server and Support)

normally i just go with teh flow, i dont make plans, just see where life takes me.

    But i do want to:-

Get a new job. Preferably working at a mates place doing web design, but anything that pays same or better than where im at and is more interesting/secure would do.

Get a few more certificates, maybe MCSE or something, but that depends on job.

Run more races. I've done 2 marathons last year and a few Spartan / Obstacle races. I'd like to do more.

Get out and Bike more. Keep saying this but its hard to arrange times with mates. On top of this theres also races i wont to do again..

Get fitter, running and biking will help as part of that.

Get qualified as Athletics coach. Part way there as done course and still finishing workbooks before assesments.

Do more with friends. this requires money, so see start of list! :)

Thats about all really, and as i said, i dont plan, i'll just see how life goes and if/when i get time to do any of this.

You can hold both certifications, although they are focused on different areas of security.

My intention is to get away from MS products and certs if possible, so I'll be looking at the RHCSA this year. Currently reading The Linux Bible to get me started.

Nope nothing to worry about, there is no such restriction. What they are likely thinking of is the 'code of ethics' that you agree to adhere to under the CISSP

    https://www.isc2.org/ethics/default.aspx

Nothing there that says you can't be a penetration tester of sorts, unless you're doing stuff without the necessary permission which is a bit different to being a 'proper' pen tester.

Haha! It's funny you say that. My girlfriend keeps pestering me about saving money. It's just not as fun saving it as it is spending it I find! However, to be fair on her, I do need to sort myself out.

Does you wife pester you too about finances, Simon? :)

Wrong, sorry but getting a stack of certs before getting in to IT is the wrong way around, Certs are "mainly" there to prove experience, not to cover for the lack of it.

I don't mean to harp on but look at the actual requirements for a lot of certs and they expect a certain amount of experience, obviously not every one of them (looking at you CompTIA and Microsoft MTA\VMware VCA) but for the main part certs are a way to prove to the enterprise that you can be trusted to be let loose on their environment.

Out of curiosity I thought I'd log into my VMware account and noticed that my VCP5 expires 28-Feb-2016, so I'm thinking I'll add that to my to do list this year. I'm not sure what exam I'd be best doing, probably the VCP Cloud or VCP6 although I've got zero experience with the newer VMware offerings which may prove to be a bit of an issue..... :S That plus on the job training which is going well :)

    Hi Simon.

I meant the more entry level ones like A+, Sec+, MTA, etc. Nothing too advanced.

I'm keeping it simple this year, lots of other stuff going on and still only finally settling back in to the country after the move back from Canada so...

    MCSA 2012

And that's it, anything else will be a bonus.
