    Check your Gmail messages without opening your browser:

    The Gmail Notifier is a downloadable Windows application that alerts you when you have new Gmail messages. It displays an icon in your system tray to let you know if you have unread Gmail messages, and shows you their subjects, senders and snippets, all without your having to open a web browser.

    Yeah...I guessed it would be that...:D but will someone let us know when its up and running again? I think its the best web based mail ever...all I need now are the POP3 and SMTP servers and I am on my way...:)

    No not as default, its a web based email service. There are a few apps that you might be able to use. Pop Goes the Gmail at neowin may be able to help you as it creates a separate POP3 and SMTP server running on your PC that relays mail between gmail and your mail app. Its in the list in the link above.
