The publicity wasn't good in the end. But he was an awesome footballer.

    R.I.P george and God Bless.

Regardless of the illness that plagued him most of his adult life,
He truly was a football great, and by all accounts a top bloke of the field.

Will always be remembered as one of the best if not the BEST footballer of all time.

a few quotes from the dear departed george best

I used to go missing a lot...Miss Canada, Miss United Kingdom, Miss World.

Robert Redford used to be such a handsome man and now look at him: everything has dropped, expanded and turned a funny colour.

and the best one ( no pun intended )

In 1969 I gave up women and alcohol and it was the worst 20 minutes of my life.

Well what can I say? The man was a legend...I met him once when he was still married to Alex...and he was looking very well indeed and that about 6yrs ago...R.I.P. Bestie mate...I may not like Man Utd but he was (other than the Great Eric!) the best player they had.

I heard some comments today from those who played along side him that after training, and before going drinking, he would go back to the training ground to spend time coaching the kids at the clubs. We didn't hear much about that as the cameras and press focused in sickengly on the last few days and hours of his life.

A great talent and human being who will be missed. Respect and sympathy to his family.

Very sad day for football. George was everyone's hero when I was young. He will be sadly missed by his family, friends and everyone that witnessed his unique magic on the ball.
