Well i finished my first day in the civil service without a hitch, its probably going to get a little more hectic, but the work will also get a little more structured, its a quiet week as you can imagine

we have a rather spiffy new EVA5000 SAN, an entire rack of disk enclosures with two controllers in the middle, very shiney and new, about 4.8TB total, me likes!

as the security engineer I get to play around with alot of ideas pertaining to the perimeter and internal networks, i spent the day reading up on SANS top 20, and Snort which i hope to implement to replace our aging and underused Nokia 330 IDS, not bad for a first day, everyones pretty friendly, laid back bunch in IT, alot of antipideans which explains that, good bit of music going, and a 60" plasma for monitoring, which im sure could be sorted to pick up the rugby ;)

ill let you knwo how things progress in my first week
were pretty strict about misuse of the internet other than during lunch, so my posting ability is a touch limited, and i haven't even dabbled into messenger and stuff yet, but you never know!

pretty pleased i made the move so far, but we will see how things turn out

Glad it's going well Ryan. What make is the SAN? We have EMC Clariion kit in with about 4Tb of storage, not the big boys kit but enough to set my propellar spinning Went on some courses earlier in the year at EMC and found the whole area of storage really interesting.
