Adobe has finally released the long-awaited flashplayer 9 beta for Linux. It's only a year behind their Windows release, but they have released it. For more information, download and installation links, go to the Penguin.swf blog from the Adobe developers.

So, for those of you Linux users who have been used to not being able to access all flash content since sites have been migrating to flash 8 you now have the ability to access those sites. I installed version 9 this morning and so far it's been flawless, but expect to find some bugs as this is a beta release.

What I did was just rename the libflashplayer.so plugin from version 7 by adding a .old extension on it before copying the new version to the appropriate directory so I can easily migrate back if this is too buggy.

BTW, there is a standalone flashplayer 9 beta available too from the same site.
