Favourite Game Music - Advertising or In-game - and why

The music in Dune 2 was great. A few others I remember as having great music were :-

System Shock - Fantastic opening theme.
Sacred Armour of Antirad - old 8bit game with great music.
Streets of Rage - Megadrive / Genesis - great music throughout that game.
Diablo2 - particulary the Return to Tristram track.

I have never bought a game because of hearing it's music though.

 

Metal gear solid for me as the music was very fitting for the game.

to name a few, chrono trigger, persona 3 and 4, einhander, sonic rush, Sonic 2 (chemical plant zone was just awesome) the random music channels in testdrive unlimited, Lotus 3 on ether pc or amiga,
the original arcade outrun!!!!!
I am sure more will come back to me anytime soon

Halo 1 music is the best game music hands down guys

Why? because it has that intense dramatic tension in the music and its well and truly amazing when mixed in with the campaign on halo 1, if you haven't played Halo 1 single player campaign, I suggest you do! its something you can't miss! .
I loved the first Halo and Halo 2 then they flopped on halo 3 and flopped Halo 3:ODST even more now Ive moved to COD4 MW2.

Opening music to Cannon Fodder - War's never been so much fun.

Also the music on the GTA IV advert helped convince me to buy the game.
Although I did not really require that much convincing.

 

C&C Red Alert was epic awesomness for a soundtrack

Agreed.

The only other in game soundtrack thats stuck with me is Gran Turismo 3, I used to drive so much better when Feeder - Buck Rogers kicked in.

The soundtracks that I can remember particularly are:

Homeworld
Halflife 1 + 2
Any Blizzard game.

There are probably more, ive been gaming for 20 years now (). I can think of a few that were really bad too!

 

Medieval and Medieval II - Total war.
