I have booked myself in to take the 2005 objectives exam on Tuesday 31st March. A perfectly good Bank Holiday buggered up with revision but worth it in the long run. Has anyone taken the 2005 tests yet and got any feedback on any areas that they concentrate on that might catch me by surprise? Of course I have made damn sure I have covered as much as possible so hopefully they won't be nasty surprises.

If no one has taken it yet I shall give feedback after I sail through (looks around for wood to touch).

    Good luck Shep!
I, like you are studying for the 2005 Objectives.
How long have you spent on revising for it? I see you have just got A+ certified like me too!
Let us know how you get on.

Good Luck, Shep! I have a feeling you'll be one of the first. You can blaze the trail and report back to us about your experience (within the limits of your NDA, of course). :)

I passed and passed with plenty of breathing space. Thats the benefit of studying hard, wish I could give a give a few shortcuts but the syllabus is broad. There were plenty of questions about port numbers so its well worth going through those in your head instead of counting sheep (FTP 21, SSH 22, telnet..........) and doing the same with your max. cable lengths.

There were a few Mac OS questions that I didn't recall seeing too much of in my Sybex book but I think I got through those by eliminating the obviously Microsoft specific answers and having a bit of a guess.

One question was a little contentious in my mind. Something along the lines of "which of these devices reduces collision domains?". The answer they were angling for was obviously a switch as opposed to a hub or repeater, but my understanding is that each port on a switch is a collision domain whereas all attached devices on a hub are a collision domain, so the number of collision domains increases, although if only one host is connected to each port no collisions can occur.

Thanks to Boyce for the good luck message and for pointing out my typo.

    Well done Shep. :beers2

What do you think will be the first Microsoft exam you will study for?

Congratulations, Shep. Well done, mate. Beers all around.

Sounds like you got ahold of a badly worded question. It should have read something like, "What device reduces the size of collision domains in your network?" or "What device reduces the overall amount of collisions in your network?". Unfortunately, CompTIA is notorious for badly worded questions. Now if they'd just hire me to edit their database... :biggrin

    Well done shep. :)

I'm starting to feel a little nervous about my own N+ now, got it booked in for the 18th of June. I decided to go for the 2003 version before it expired, since all the study material I have is aimed at the 2003 objectives.

Almost through the main meat n veg of the studying now, then it's onto some intensive trancender stylee tesing to get a feel for my weaknesses. :)
