Thanks for the update on Scotland, haven't been up there in ages!

What type of switches do you use in the hubs?

Are they fibre optic or Cat cables connected to them?

All cat5 and ADSL broadband with point to point VPNs back to HQ via a Check Point (nokia) firewall.

Some of the more ‘corporate’ clients have leased lines and we just support the servers and the firewalls as the helpdesk\desktop guys are in-house.

One client has a fibre optic link between two offices (they are very close together) but that’s just the way we inherited the network.

Great attitude from your sysadmin, if he suddenly leaves then you and the rest of the team are basically up the creek without a paddle.

Hello Wizard how's the new job going? the proof reader??

Yes I know it will leave us up the creek, but it's upto the management to do something about it, but they don't seem to be bothered.

Completely stalled on that due to the finances. Doing customer service work for argos at the moment and for the forseeable future unless I happen to find a bundle of 50s in a shoebox at the side of the pavement :D

There aren’t many disadvantages to using AD IMO. Centralised management of all user accounts and permissions can be delegated to other admins so all is good.

The 70-290 is a good start if you want to get into Server admin. Then you can threaten to take your current network administrator’s job, its all good! :biggrin
