Hi all,

Just wondering if there is any eve online fans here?

I have been playing for over 6 years now (joined shortly after beta) and still find the game totally fascinating.

If you have no idea what im talking I will explain:

Eve is a sci fi massively multiplayer online role-playing game (mmorpg) set 21,000 years in the future and is totally player driven. If your a star wars / trek fan this this game is right down your street. Players build/buy there own ships and use them in combat in a pvp enviroment. The fleet battles are incredible and I have been in battles with 800 people from 2 alliances fighting each other over space!

What makes eve diffrent from other games such as world of warcraft is that the game is set on a single server and at present there are around 50,000 players connected and playing on a single shard!

Strangely enough I was sent a free trial for this over the weekend, and after reading through it remined me a bit of Elite 2, so I decided to download it.......over 3 hours later, and it turns out I cant run the bloody thing because my graphic cards is .........in non technical terms, abosolute tripe........

I need a trip to PC world.

 

wow, Elite, now theres a blast from the past.

Yeah eve online is a very similer idea to elite. I loved that game

They updated the graphics in the last patch, theres some stunning visuals in eve and now in hd. Hope you sort a new gfx card soon

 

Yeah I used to like Elite on my trusty Amiga.

Looked at Eve never played it though.

Still got a copy of Elite 2, Frontier on my trust A500 I decide to fire up the old girl the other day and have myself a game.....erm............some things are best left in the fond memories of youth, especially when it involves swapping game disk constantly

Rhein what specs are you running it on, and on a lower end spec...does it run ok?

 

Well at the moment I have a fairly good spec pc (nvidia gtx 260, quad core q6600) eve runs fine on this.
I used to play eve on my old computer which was a basic amd athlon with x1300 graphics card. Eve still plays on my old laptop to which has got to be over 4 years old now

Eve used to have 2 clients, one for high spec systems and one for not so high spec, Im not sure but I think they have removed the client for low spec systems and made it possible to lower settings ingame.

Er..well dont laugh, but its about 6 years old and is a Nvidia Geforce MX 440..............i believe

Im a fan of retro computers myself, I still have my Sinclair ZX Spectrum (with rubber keys) also had zx spectrum +3 with a floppy drive!!

Sigh... those were the days

 

its as if you know me well, "if I EVER upgrade"

Ive only just upgraded to a Athlon 2600+ with 1.5 Gig Ram

But im really liking the look of EVE, so I may pop out and get some bits this weekend.


Any suggestions regarding starting up in EVE? any trade advice etc? or pitfalls to avoid

As for advice I think the best thing you could do with eve is exactly what I done to start with and throw yourself into it! Eve unlike most mmo's is incredibly cruel, there are so many people out to scam/rob/kill you its unbelievable.

Eve has the highest learning curve imaginable, I think its currently at two years to become a good player.

Trust no one, trade or mission to make money or even invent & build! Or you could do what I did and become a pirate, attack ships with your friends in lawless space and steal there cargo. Joining the darkside has its down side.... Once you become an outlaw you must stay in lawless space away from empire and policed space and live a nomadic life with your fellow brethren

I could talk forever on eve, but I do encourage people to try it and give it time.

I finally got a better Graphics card, not a super duper card but it will do the job for now and I have to say........WOW, eve is awesome. If it can run like it does on my system, Id love to see how impressive it is on a better system.


Rheinkraft ....I cant believe how much there is to the game, and ive only just finished the first tutorial. its immense and Ive heard all about you pesky Pirates harassing poor traders


The only thing is, Ive had this damn bug which seems to close down EVE with a CCP error?

I've tried EVE several times but never got into it, much prefered City of Heroes.

I play EVE very often, I have 4 accounts including 2 Miners, 1 Hauler and one PVP/eWAR specialist, all dating back to around 2005.
Too bad that I havent had them active all this time, but I still got some mil SPs on my belt hehe.

The game is very very complex, but that doesnt mean it is hard.

The last time I logged in was just after they released the high res graphic update. Undocked in something big and expensive and was so blown away by the prettiness that I had it blown out from under me in moments...
