Apparently the 5.1 client should work fine but as I don't use Windows 8 I can't vouch for that.

I don't use IE 10 to manage my vSphere environment, but with that said, I do use Windows 8 and have no issue. Thick client works and Chrome works too.

 

Cannot seem to connect with the web client on 5.0 with IE or Chrome on Windows 8.

We are upgrading to 5.1 soon. The VMWare client uses the IE Plugin and this is an issue with Windows 8 and 5.0.

 

Whats the error code you're getting? I can connect with both IE 10 and Chrome (just tested IE 10) and I am running 5.1.0b

No worries ;) btw it also works with vCenter Server Appliance, just thought I'd mention it.
