I scored an entry level IT job last year, aged 32. a few months later another guy was recruited who was in his 30's also.

Don't give up looking. After hearing my boss pulling hundreds of CV's apart (we are recruiting network engineers and IT security specialists at present) the biggest thing that pisses him off is B$

Make sure there is no lies on your CV and everything reads ok. if you fit the bill they will at least ask you in for a chat.

example of which is someone taking the best part of a page on his CV to explain how once a month he runs a discovery tool on the network to check if antivirus software is up to date on client and server machines :D

My CV was one page long, (no relevant experience but willing to learn) because I was one of the only people who had no B$ on the CV i was asked in, and got the job.

Honesty is always the best policy but might not get you noticed more but in the long run it is best as lies would get found out.

I did not say that because age discrimination is illegal that is does not happen and yes it does happen. But unfortunately that's life only if everyone was nice, humane and reasonable but as we all know it's sadly not the case.

I'd however, remove my age and or date of birth from my CV. Best wishes:)

I'm the same at 48, it appears we are too old for anything now except early retirement. Now that a good idea!

It's not impossible, and you're still younger than I am. What I finally found was a position with a small business run by someone my own age. I don't think we have an employee younger than 50. It is very possible that this will turn out to be an incredible opportunity to make some real money too as we are on the verge of landing a contract with a company that does business world-wide with the US government. If this goes through at the expected level we are going to really grow, and I'll have my foot in the door at the ground level. If it doesn't, well, business is still good and we will be growing anyway. We just won't grow as rapidly.
