    Hey Guys, nothing major here.

Just noticed something that puzzled me the last time I used VMWare as well. When I install it, all is working fine, but when I go to my Network Connections on the host machine (XP Pro SP2), all I got is my ADSL connection, and VMnet1 and VMnet8 - my LAN connection disappears altogether.

LAN is still running fine, but wtf ? Where's the connectoid for it ? (LOL - I swore I would NEVER use that word ! :biggrin)

    Thanks in advance :)

Update: When I disable both virtual ethernet cards in Device Manager (strangely, won't let my do it from Network Connections), then reboot - my LAN icon comes up again as normal.

    Any ideas ?

I'll have to check it out on my lab machine when I go home tonight (which will be kind of late for you). I never noticed anything amiss but then I wasn't looking for it either.

No worries. It's not like it's gonna knock me out to give it a quick look.

I don't know what to say, Gav. On my Windows XP Pro host machine, in Network Connections under "LAN or High Speed Internet, I've got icons (or whatever) for VMware Network Adapter VMnet1, VMware Network Adapter VMnet8 and (drum roll please) Local Area Connection. I have no idea why yours doesn't appear.

I suspect my PC to be honest, Trip. My NIC can appear (or not) to behave funny at times, even tho the n/w is fine. :hhhmmm

I really need to look at a driver issue here. It's on my "to-do" list ...

    Fess up time again :D

My bad - sheer coincidence with the problem and VMWare. Over time, and some moving around of the PC, the NIC had slowly worked it's way loose, explaining the inconsistent behaviour above.

Finally got round to this today, as the wee one wanted onto the Net from her PC, and it just wasn't happening. Ripped my box out, tidied all the cables, opened it up and immediately noticed the unseated NIC. 5 min later - VIOLA, LAN is back and network is restored.

    Cheers anyway
