I bought a pc magazine at the weekend and it mentioned data recovery and different software that can be used to help. Does anyone know of any training courses where I can learn data recovery in more detail? Or is it one of those subjects where practice is really the only way to learn?

IMHO the main requirement for being successful at data-recovery is *very* detailed knowledge of hardware and filesystems.

I used to do this some years ago, and found that, while tools help a lot, nothing substitutes for detailed knowledge of the filesystem so you can recognize patterns in the data.
