    Right

After the third ridiculous power outage at our main data centre in a year today (which has seen me and my two colleagues working like blue-arsed flies for eleven hours fixing everything (SAN, ESX, network infrastructure, DB servers - the lot) I am sick to death of it and am now actively looking for a new data centre.

Can anyone recommend anything reasonably close to (but outside) the M25 - with good public transport links and preferably carrier-neutral? We're currently in Maidenhead, but that is a poxy journey anyway, so not looking in the Thames Valley (Reading, Bracknell, Windsor etc) area - would like somewhere North (Elstree, Harpenden etc) or South (Godstone, Caterham etc). Need 6-8 racks, must be flexible on power costs, have decent redundant links, no objections to us getting third-party MPLS in via backhaul (if not carrier neutral) and - most importantly - MUST NOT HAVE POWER DISTRIBUTION BOARDS MADE OF STICKY PLASTER AND RYVITA :x :x :x

I bet in times and situations like these the providers SLA's goes through the window. I have heard good things about Rackspace hosting though:)

Cheers Luke - I had seen that but it doesn't show anything in the areas I'm looking for. Closest is Crawley - which is an absolute trek. Was kind of hoping there'd be something like Globix/Telecity near Watford, but it's looking like I'll need to think about Reading or Bracknell.

Onoski - data centres are the way to go. Once you make the shift, you never want to go back. We've now got four racks in our brand speanking new office, where before the data centre & VI move (made two years ago) we would have had to accomodate more than double that - leaving our actual office a damn sight more cramped. We save so much more on things like power & air con as well, have no problems with deliveries (unlike in central London), don't have to manage our own WAN etc. etc. - it's awesome.

At a previous company I used Sungard LTC near Heathrow airport - service was good and the datacentre itself was excellent but bloody pricey and at the time it was getting pretty close to capacity

Also used their shared facility in TC2 which was ok, if not as impressive as LTC
