    Cheers people for the congrats!
    ----
im in two minds about my next cert!
originally it was N+, but as i will be starting work on Monday, i'm gonna see whether MCDST would be more viable...

looking at both objectives (not happy with 2 exams for the MS one), MCDST does seem easier and more related to what i'll be doing at work, but i want to get into Networking, so N+ seems to be better!

    What do you guys think?

    Cheeks,

They are quite different courses, so I would choose the one more beneficial to you at this moment in time.

You shouldn't find the MCDST that bad - you have been using XP for some time along with the Office suite.

N+ covers TCP/IP, subnetting, protocols, LAN and WAN technology so might be completely new and therefore a steeper, more time consuming curve.

Although I want the cert's, at the moment I am concentrating on learning the topics behind them.
For example, I have my home domain, Server books and training material from Trainsignal. Armed with this, when I am happy with using Server in general, I will review the objectives and aim for the 290. I think sometimes it can be easy to focus a bit too much on the objectives for the exam and not look outside them.

You should get some valuble experience with your job which will help you with whichever you decide, although if the cert/knowledge is being used for job progression, personally I would favour the MCDST followed by the Network +.

Best of luck whichever you decide and good luck with the new job :thumbleft

I would also recommend the MCDST, followed by Net+, for the same reasons Boyce gave.
