    24hr later yes the ribbon is on right. Will change hard drive to spare tomorrow also think ill chage the battery as cmos keeps going back to 2002 date

    Just unplug the floppy you don't need it and make sure the BIOS is set to boot from the hard drive.. after you have replaced the battery that is :rolleyes:

    yes thats what i intend doing im just using the computer to practice on.:D

    It sounds like you are doing good Mof, and this will be great pratice for you. If you can get it going then you have a machine to blow up at will and rebuild! :) Keep up the good work.

    LOL have alraedy got it going once after i changed the psu then i fiddled now look where i am (Floppy hard drive and battery what next I know dvd rom at least the pc was free.:rolleyes:

    just changed hard drive over to a spare one pc can see it but when i go to format it, it says cannot detect hard drive. could this be because of the dead battery.

    Have you set the master or slave jumper properly?

    Reading your statement literally - did you partition it? You can't format a drive if this hasn't been done.
