I've just ordered the Syngress book after a recommendation from a friend, looks like a good choice! :biggrin

Thanks for the link, looks like an excellent cram sheet for the slow moments in work! Rep'd. 8)

Aha! I came on for a lurk in the linux forum and saw this thread... Planning to get N+ done before 2011 falls :)

6 weeks and counting. I've not seen many test centres open much past the 18th (around me anyway). The odd one is reopening in the xmas to new year period for a few days though and I'd guess London has more flexibility on that note.

    Time to get studying.

I take it as you mean before 2010 falls and 2011 rises .. :biggrin

Anyway, now that this has come up, I think I have been taking it just too easy after completing my N+, MCDST and 70-290 cert exams in Aug 2010 and almost become careless to not think about getting security+ done, but I’m was just thinking whether it’s worth rushing in and try to get it done by end of 2010, as looking @ it now I only have a few weeks if I decide to do this, and I don’t want to do it under pressure, I’d rather relax my mind and do this. I see the point in getting it b4 end of this year but don’t want to just din’t want push it through and getting it wrong and failing the exam ..

I was planning on doing the N+ before the end of this year, but with christmas and both the kids birthdays in november it will be a real struggle for me to find £160, plus if i actually can get that money together i feel the pressure will be huge to pass it first time, as if i fail thats clearly a lot of money down the drain (as i am starting to get a bit more server time at work so wouldnt bother if i had to re-certify). I think the pressure of failing it would be too much for me no matter how much prep i put in so i shall carry on reading the book as i have learnt a lot so far, but will not go for the exam.

My plan now is to get the MCDST done before march as i have loads of XP experience and i feel that would be good to have to back up the exp. Then do the upgrade as work is currently moving to W7, then who knows where, AD/Exchange/Server2008

This is my thoughts on the N+, i really wouldnt mind getting the cert but the pressure on me to not waste that much money at this time of the year by failing would be too much!

I've just booked my N+ for 23rd December to try and get cert before the change.

But I've just had a thought, if someone was to use the proposed new 3 year N+ and A+ or Security+ as an elective for an MSCE, would that defunk your MSCE electives if you don't complete the MSCE before your comptia certs expire?

They are manually added on to your MS transcript when you email them the CompTIA transcript, as far as I am aware they don't do any follow up checking, once they are on there they are on there, at least this is the current situation unless they are going to change the procedure come next year.

    ..so an update then.

I’ve got the Security+ out of the way and a few other have posted their success stories as well which is good news.

Who else is left to go? It’s a challenge at this time of year to get the time to study and also to shell out the cash (I've got less beer money now!) so best of luck! :thumbleft

I passed my A+ on the 7th December..

    Network+ on 17th December..

And I've got Security+ booked on 31st December.

Been a hard month but the finish line's in sight now.

with regards to money, apart from the exams, I've had to travel up to 90mins away to get to test
centres with time slots avaliable. Also worth mentioning my car struggles to get anything close to 35mpg too.

Hopefully all worth it and I intend on getting hammered for new years

I can't see why the A+ should be renewable. AFAIK it covers mainly hardware, now hardware doesn't change that drastically in regards to the questions and level of the A+ test.

Nod - still keeping my eyes on the S14's, shame all the ones over here are in poor nick. Had to settle for a S40 1.9T, unfortunately here they are not the same as the T4's in the UK, only 160ish BHP instead of the 200.

Ok so its been a bad week for me, I failed the 70-291 on Monday by 23 points and yesterday failed the N+ (I had 710 and needed 720) I've been trying to re-book all morning, but...

A - Can't find a telephone number to speek with prometric, website just keeps takin gback to online booking.

B - All test centers in Cardiff are not showing any available dates or answering phones (its like some sort of public holiday or something).

C - The only place I can find is in Easton Learning Centre in Bristol, but when I called their number listed on prometric, they said that they don't do CompTIA and they only do the "Life in the UK" exams and that if I wanted one of those then I needed to call another number (shot the number at me like it was about to explode and put the phone down)...

Now I know I didn't go to an exclusive private school where you learn to speak with a plumb in your mouth and a sliver spoon up your jacksey, and up here in the South Wales Valleys we don't speek like 1940's BBC radio presenters, but I think telling me to sit a Citezenship test is a bit much..

I know I made a mistake booking them both in the same week, and didn't really prepare myself for the "Quick Fire Acronym round" that was the N+ - seriously if you've ever seen the Michel and Web sketch "Number Wang" you'll have a pretty good idea of what my experance of the N+ was.

But I'm pretty sure that if I pick up a book and try review these Acronyms I can get the N+ before the idiots at Comptia introduce their Continuing Development Plan - seriously have you read the PDF on renewing exams...

You can pay to resit the exam every 3 years, pay to attend a course every 3 years or (this is the best bit) teach a course - apprantly if teach the subject then there is no need for comptia to re-assess you (scarey?).

Anyway I'm off topic a bit, back to the plot..

Has anyone sat a CompTIA test at Easton Learning Centre in Bristol or have the batphone number for prometric please, thanks

Sounds like a hard week cosway, on a positive note, not far away from either so you'll nail them on the resit!

Im not sure about the test centres you mentioned, being down here in London, but best of luck getting the N+ before the new year, hopefully you'll be able to grab a spot somewhere.

Gotta be honest, I'm doing mine through Pearson Vue, which I've so far had no troubles, because I found the prometric site impossible to navigate, it's awful.

I've not needed to call anyone, arranged an exam re-schedule via pearson website no problem

    Worth swapping?
