Ah - don't have that one so can't comment. I looked in the big MM book, and as stated above, felt that he had got part of it wrong.
    Great.

Even if the SSID is not broadcast it is still discoverable with patience. IMHO trying to fiddle with the SSID for security purposes is a waste of time.
Hm - depends on the actual words.
For a WiFi network to work the SSIDs of all participants in that network must match. That is what the SSID is for.

    :biggrin
For clarity - the proper term for a WiFi network with an AP controlling it is 'Infrastructure'.

And an Infrastructure network is no more or less secure than an Ad-hoc one when treated on it's own. The improvement in security with Infrastructure comes when the AP is connected to a password database and other enhancements which are sourced elsewhere on the network.

A+ is supposed to be a broad-brush overview of all things PC. As networking is important to PCs then some introductory networking stuff is in the A+.

    'ave I opened a box of frogs again?Sorry fellas..

On that note though, mesh, star and bus topologies will be part of the networking syllabus for the A+,in so much as being able to recognise each topology either from a description or a diagram (and my exam had both!!!!).

Networking is so wide and diverse that CompTIA have a certification dedicated solely to it,whereas the A+ introduces networking as a part of the broader picture and hence tests your knowledge of networking on a broad but not too indepth way.

You asked a very good question mind you and one that I had to look up to answer correctly, given I've already covered that particular subject whilst starting to study for my N+....

Thanks Everyone for your advice and time.:thumbleft

As for the Muppet who shares the office with me at work and has taken a brain dump to pass A+

Well I wouldn't mind so much if he didn't brag about it!

Also i know there will always be Office Politics were ever you go!

But I never expected in my IT job to meet someone who loves talking about his Sexual relationships with other Men and What fantastic Bum Sex he is having:ohmy

It's not the sort of thing I want to hear on a monday morning!

Also, if a customer wants to know what's wrong with the computer you should tell them and use plain English if they don't understand IT jargon. But this guy uses Bull$hit!

Gives PC tech's a bad reputation!

Anyway that's my moan for the day!

Thanks everyone for the help!:biggrin :thumbleft

I just been through the entire thread, and i think i know the diff between Ad-hoc and Infrastructure.

ok, WEP and WPA are security features of WAP's. WEP being the weakest... that i know already?

Adhoc - computers that are connected directly to each other (peer-to-peer)

Infrastructure - computers connected to each via a switch/hub?

Am i correct or is it the other way round :blink
