Who do you think is going to support "the cloud"? The "cloud genies"? ;)

There will be plenty of opportunities for people in the IT career field.

Michael I didn't say IT was going to implode but IF cloud computing takes off then as I've said I think data center skills will be in demand as to my understanding thats what cloud computing is just big data centers. If your seeing cloud Genies then I would suggest you go and see someone.

Can't really say about Security or Forensics in Newcastle to be honest haven't really come across much but then again I haven't been looking for those types of jobs. Best advice is to search the job sites like Reed, Jobsite and Jobserve to see if there is a demand for them in Newcastle or surrounding areas.

That's the point - I'm not seeing them at all. There will still need to be seasoned IT professionals who support not only the cloud, but end-user desktops as well.

For those who weren't in IT when the Internet started taking off like gangbusters, this is the same sort of gloom-and-doom that was predicted back then. Move along, folks, nothing to see here...

This is an interesting discussion. I've read a few articles in the last month or so stating that the higher level IT jobs such as network/sys admins, will be available more than ever and will also have a lot more competition than first or second line work...
