The meet will go ahead Harry, even if its just me, Mick and Noel!:biggrin

Hotels in the city centre are looking pretty pricey, if you're prepared to get a taxi into the centre from say Gateshead then the prices start to drop a bit.

Or the Metro from Whitley Bay. That's what I did last time I was in Newcastle, and had a cheap B&B

Well there is the solution then...if hotel prices are expensive in town...out of town hotels and B&Bs are what you want and there is no where better than Whitley Bay...:biggrin take it from someone who lived there for a bit...its a nice place...

The problem seems to be that when we roll out of the pub finaly the metro won't be running - so an expensive taxi! :ohmy

I'll have to balance hotel price and distance somehow.

Is something going on in Newcastle that weekend? Quite a lot of hotels report being full.

I might have to miss this one out even though its near me :(

I may be paying for my exams instead, hopefully the cash situation will allow both the get together and the exams but I doubt it.

How far is this place called Washington, Tyne and Wear
it says its about 8 miles, what's that cab cost wise? threes a holiday inn express there ranging from 39 quid
and like our first Birmingham stay im sure we can all split the cab costs!

The city center express is normally 59 but reporting costs of 120 for this day.. must be something going on lol

Washington is Sunderland way, if you get 5 in a taxi it could be maybe £3-5 each or there abouts.

Ahh well, if I couldn't make the GTG in Npton which is where I live, I doubt I'll be making one in Newcastle. :)

Well - I've managed to get into the Royal Station Hotel at a reasonable price. The hotel says they are very busy that weekend, but don't know of anything special causing it.

Which website was that? I've found some booking sites seem to say full, but if you go to the hotel site they say otherwise. The Royal Station is part of the Cairn group - it was on their site that I booked.

All I've found so far is that it's Newcastle v Tottenham that day. (Newcastle websites don't cater for advance planning with events, sigh).

Any chance of picking a different weekend, if hotel accommodation is non-existent? At first I thought of self-catering, especially if there are enough people, but probably a bit steep however long the hangovers last! :blink

There are a few places just outside of town with plenty of rooms, I dont think it will be that big of a deal.. we did the same during our stay in birmingham once.. cab between 5 isnt much really
we will all need to try and settle on the same place if we want to use that technique though :)

Er - moving the date would cause me to lose my money, as I had to pay in order to get a reasonable rate!

Yeek! Seems like there are rooms after all - from reading this thread, I'd pictured cardboard box handouts and directions to the nearest bridge
