certs or degree

whats best for employment prospects degree, certs or both. i know i need experiance but to get experince you needa job but difficult to get a job.

Not being flippant here - one employer's preference for certs is another's degree. It's as much what you know as how you know it, IMHO

 

being good at what you do holds a lot of weight too

 

Experience and skills count for more than anything.

Jak is right, it varies from employer to employer weather they want certs or a degree.

Qualifications open doors, skills keep them open.

 

thanks guys it just that theres a posibility that as part of my retraining i may be offerd the chance to do a degree as part of my compensatin claim, it depends if the insurance company think there is more chance of getting a job after doing a degree or not

 

Something to think about is that a degree will take a lot longer to complete than a few certs, say A+ and Network+.

If you got the opportunity though you could go for the degree, and do some certs during the long summer breaks?

Just a suggestion.

 

i have done alot of research on certs at uni and from what im looking at (B.Sc Computer Networking) nearly all of the Uni's have CCNA embedded into the program and alot CCNP! Some even have the MCSA aswell while you study for the degree....
