During your IT studies is there one exam, certification, technology etc that you really enjoyed studying?

I was very glad to get my MCSE but my favorite exam/certificate that I've studied for and past I have to say is......... my........... CompTIA Security+! I liked the way it touched on a wide variety of security subjects. I liked the way Microsoft recognise it so it counted toward my MCSE:Security too.

**Edit: Please not I'm not advocating any one company/cert/exam/technology. Merely asking what everyone has enjoyed studying.

Anything related to networking and network security.
I haven't done my Network+ or Security+ yet but have gained enough knowledge to give it a try after MCTS.

I think i will enjoy studying for MCSE in the long term :)

Apart from the usual suspects (MCSE etc.) I really liked doing the ISA 2006 exam (70-351), maybe because I was doing ISA projects at work at the time but also because it bumped up my MCSA to MCSA:Security. :)

It was a hard exam and not much available in terms of study resources. Just passed it before retirement date as well. Come to think of it - total nightmare!!! :)

Ha ha ha ha Thank God it wasn't just me!!!! I really really struggled to find anything to help me on that one ha ha Oh tell you what was a bit a of a pleasure to do, the Vista config exam 70-620! My first MCTS and IMHO a massive step down in difficulty compared to most if not all of the 2003 exams I sat :)

Yeah, the 70-620 was quite easy and a complete change from any previous MS exam I had done previously. I had just done the 70-297 at the time which was a major challenge.

Thinking of going for the Windows 7 exam to try and get the certs going again…..

My mates not long past it and said it was really interesting with some clever stuff going on under the hood as you'd imagine. I am tempted but I need to get my butt into gear upgrading my MCSE. Lucky enough because I did that 620 I'll only have to do that dreaded 3 in 1 649 and the EA Pro exam and so probably miss the Windows 7 exam as I've no practical need for it. Lite Touch and Zero Touch etc was covered in 620 so at least I've got a bit of a clue I hope.

Really enjoyed NT SITE way back in the day. Most people I know hated that exam, but I thought it was a lot more interesting than the TCP/IP or vanilla Server/Workstation exams.

Other than that (for exams most of the rest of you will remember!) I enjoyed the VMWare course a couple of years back (though never bothered with the exam) and I had a Juniper firewalls course at Interquad (remember them?) that was excellent - and had some really good after-course material to study from.

Absolute worst has got to be SQL design for my MCDBA - took me six months to feel confident enough to take that sucker (though I passed first time as a result). Peopls who design databases for a living must be the dullest people on Earth.

My entire MCSE course was probably the most interesting and eye opening one I ever did. The Windows 2000 Professional MCP which I earned in 2003 was my first cert ^_^

Here here, I avoid anything DB related like the plague and leave that to the experts :S I'm really looking forward to my vSphere course a week after next because theres a lot of hands on apparently which I didn't expect. The XenServer 5 course our lot have had recently is apparently full of clever stuff so looking forward to getting that eventually.

I think I am starting to lean toward your way of thinking tho Zeb, there's a few milestone exams I feel I want to get then I'll probably end my certification hunting unless something radical comes along. I'll get an exam voucher for the VCP and with that being a bit exclusive because you need to have sat the course, I'll definitely be sitting that.

The Citrix CCA also after I get the course more as a confidence boost as we are getting more and more Citrix tickets that seem like Chinese to me right now.

Finally the two MS exams to upgrade my MCSE again for two not entirely honourable reasons, the first being that there's no way I'll put myself through a full track again like I did for the MCSE, if I had to do a full track again I wouldn't bother, and secondly I'm thinking if I get one of these MCITP's that the title will be around for as long as the MCSE was........ sorry I'm rambling.

Can you see yourself doing any more certs Zeb?

Oh I am going to smash that bloody CEH! Even tho I know its no big deal, and potentially of no use to my career, I had to get a letter from my manager, fax over my drivers licence etc etc to get the code for the exam so I'm gonna do it just out of spite so I can say it was a piece of cake ha ha

Not an exam, however my favorite is my CITP. If it's favorite "certificate" gained from an "exam" then it's my black belt. If it's IT related, for sentimental reasons the A+ (the first exam that I ever took) and the MCSE 2000 (the only higher MS exam I actually took the "complete" exams for, since then it's been upgrade exams...).

I'd have to say the A+ was a very interesting exam to study for... I think the fact that I've already understood the basic concepts and the depth of the book itself where I learned more made it more interesting... The MCSA was an interesting pursuit too... although it probably ends there for me, I don't think I'll bother with the MCSE unless my employer wants me to sit the exams... From this point on, it's MCITP for me...
