Whilst I understand the logic behind firms wanting an SC or DV.

On the other hand does this necessarily mean the cleared person is not likely to fall a culprit if they get greedy or do some type of crime? It all comes across as a visa to say yeah! all clear and unfallable:)

It doesn't make companies immune from things like that happening... but it certainly minimizes the risk by hiring only people who are LESS likely to do such things.

Ok, while my role is 1st/2nd line support, it incudes commsioning of equipment, training and repairs. nd i'm close to the bottom of teh pay range i voted for..£15 to £20k and as for my pay rise last year, lets say i got less than £500.

No the companies taken on a newbie, doing less than me, less experience in our line as well, yet at quite a lot more than me. I cant figure out why... So lets just say i am also looking.

It's not at HMGCC, is it? I wanted to apply there, but one of the requirements is you are a British citizen and one of your parents is a British citizen :dry Whatever happened to a united EU?

My SC cost about 800 sheets. And that was slightly in advance of 'normal' SC. Well short of full defence vetting (that came later due to increased clearance requirements) but the initial SC was certainly less than a thousand. And having been responsible for clearance of potential future colleagues, including internal accounting so being privy to full costs associated I could tell you the EXACT figure if you want - it may have gone up since then, but I'm willing to bet its still short of 500 quid.

However - I must confess to tricking you somewhat - this was for a pollice force remember, so all the crb, criminal association and good character checks cost nowt!

Damn - I guess I'm the only one in my salary bracket!

Looks like the ol' Training Providers are ever-so-slightly gilding the lily with their promises of 40k a year salaries after getting a cert - the average seems to be around 15-20k less than that :)

My vote is in ... quite good since I am now actually moving back to a more technical orientated role too. I had been an Assistant Head (equivalent) having moved up the manglement track, but now working at the council getting deep and dirty in the technical decisions for education. *and* I work out cheaper than the part-time conslutants that could be bought in to do the work (and they only need me because the council sold of the schools' IT Support service to Capita a few years ago and have to pay every time they want advice now!!!)

I'll be getting a few other perks too ... ITIL and PRINCE2 within the next 12 months.

Still .. at least I get involved in some rather fun projects ... all I've got to do now is persuade the central IT guys not to lock down my profile so flamin' much!

Interesting how there seems to be a complete void between 50K and 60K

Is there something demonic about wages in that area that us lower paid grunts need to know about? :biggrin

no mate its the foreighn office there. Those HMGCC are real sneaky beaky boffin types though..

It seems its only a united EU when it suits the government, when theres money to be made from cheap labour from new EU countries!!

Nah, they're all making over 100K, so there's really a void between 50K and 100K.

    It's a hard life :)

I've only played golf a few times since I got here
went camping this weekend up in the mountains (about 6000ft up), nice and cool, no golf though, only hiking and swimming

Hmm what else, yeah shopping is a common thread, hit up best buy before the camping trip for an SD card and a portable ipod speaker ;)

Now I have to find cheaper things to do whilst I'm not quite meeting my earning potential (read: unemployed)
