Came across some information on our works website today, regarding what it took to carry out the 2001 Census.

Thought it may be interesting for people to know what it takes to make a big project like this work.

ICL were in charge, as contractors of Lockheed Martin.

    - 1200 staff were employed for 10 months.

    - It took 30 miles of racking to hold 320,000 boxes of completed census forms.

    - Floor space of the processing site was the size of five football pitches.

    - Processing site had 177 servers, holding 23 terabytes of on-line data.

    - 570 workstations were used (ICL equipped).

    - 27.3 million forms passed through the processing system.

geez talk about make sure you BACKUP :!: :!: :!: LOL :!:

Oh and their were 800,000 fewer men than previously thought, probably due to young men migrating or working away.
More women for us blokes then lads :D

I reckon it's because 800,000 more men finally realised that being down the boozers with their Mates was more fulfilling that listening to 800,000 wives/partners yapping on at them

Probably rip-off Britain, they all got fed up.

I know I am right now.Just been talking to my sister who's visiting (she lives in Manchester right now) about flats and that.

I really want to branch out on my own and get a flat, just for my own space, now that I have a job.But it's bullcr@p the price of living in this country, I could scrape by in a one bedroom flat on my current wage.

So yeah they've probably gone abroad where you can actually live with the wage you get.Really want to try and go abroad, new experiences and that for myself, wonder how to go about it.Might start a new post, something else to think about.
