What sort of message are we sending out to members about BD's?

Not a good one, would you really judge someone to be a bad person just because they told you you they have used BD's without knowing why?

What if you have been working for a company for over 4 years, had no IT certs but just 4 years on the job work experience in the IT field. Then one day the company gets taken over by the finance boys and they start changing things. It's you must have this cert by the end of 2007.

The prime example is Nurses, Mr Tony Blair and his national system that is bringing the NHS to it's knees. Expecting nurses to be computer literate by the year 2010. As if they haven't got enough to learn!

    Would you judge them??

If they used BD's to keep their job's. They are not interested in computers and yet to keep their job they are being told they must have ECDL! where do they find the time or the money to do this?

It's the same with mate from another forum he took BD's to get his A+

As he stated the stuff covered in the A+ 2003 material is too old and is not relevant to his work and yet they have demanded it! He has to juggle long hours at work with doing up an old house and looking after his family where does he find the time??

He doesn't do the new company managers care!!

    No!

Will he viote on this thread No!

Well that's my 2p's worth better get off my soap box!8)

I dont recall anyone saying IT was easy, that hardly makes it an excuse to cheat
people who need to BD an exam to proove they are computer literate? wow thats an oxymoron if ever i've heard one!

I think the message we send out is pretty clear, none of us are that harsh on people who have unknowingly used BDs, but we will re iterate the message time and time again until the IT cert community is rid of it (which will be never)

They are not taking BD's to be computer literate they are taking it to hold onto their job's.

I don't agree that people should replace work experience or hard study with BD's but I can see why some people need to you use them.
I never said people take BD's to prove their computer literate. Just because you got the paper cert doesn't mean you are computer literate iit s just one small cog in the system in IT Certification. If an A+ person joined where I work they would still need to be trained.

Most of the It managers at work agree that A+ and N+ are sh$t however I do not agree with this view and believe it does provide a solid foundation in computers but I don't believe it makes me computer literate:biggrin

Monkey, if you have to cheat your way though an exam then you don't know the product. Yet that person has a cert that tells employers that they do know it. When a company hires someone like that they do have a certain expectation that the person they hire will be able to function at a certain level. If they cheated they won't have that knowledge though. They have wasted that company time and money and took a job away from a tech that has worked hard to get his cert and has earned a job like that. And please don't get me started on the ethics of it all. Cheating to get a job is just an excuse and not a very good one at that.

OK Mitzs and Ryan Let's get this straight!:deal

    + I don' t use brain dump's
+ I don't approve of of companies using Braindumps
+ I don't agree that someone who has the option/time to
study for a certifcate should take the easy way out by
    using BD's.

+ I don't like or respect people who bragg that A+ was easy
    because they used BD's

+ I don't agree with people using BD's just to get a job.

However, I do feel sympathy towards people who are backed into a corner and have to take that route or face unemployment.

I don't approve of you and Ryan jumping onto your high horses and dam someone before learning about their circumstances:dry

And I don't approve of you thinking that there is a good reason to EVER use a bd. Phoenix and I aren't on any high horse cheeky. We are telling it like it is. We and a lot of others know and understand what bd's do to this industry and if we can prevent newbies from being suckered into them. It will only make the IT community better and stronger.

    Now now girls, calm down!

I've never used a brain dump, however, I nearly bought some from test king, but something set the alarm bells ringing and I didn't buy them in the end. Now I know they are brain dumps, I'm glad I didn't buy them. However, it is tempting to buy them, just to see what it's like. It's temptin in the same way then when ur a little kid, you went hunting for your xmas prezzies.

Personally, I find the A+ is easy enough as it is, but then again I have been building/repairing/upgrading PC's for family and friends for nearly 12 years. Also, I'm one of the people that can read something once, and then more or less know it all, but then there are alot of people in the world that are the complete opposite, whereby they have to study extremely hard to understand things.

I find just laying on my bed, having some softish music on quietly works well for me, as I can't study in a quiet room as I start to day dream.

Unless they used the braindumps accidentally, I'd judge them quite harshly.

If they can't hang in IT, they deserve to fall by the wayside.

    Sorry, no sympathy here.

If this forum starts going soft on braindumpers, I'll have to find another stomping ground. :dry

If they need to use a braindump to get a certification, and they need the certification to keep their job, then they don't deserve to keep the job. Period. There's no compromise there.

This kind of attitude is EXACTLY why certifications are being devalued... because the people achieving them aren't qualified to hold them.

I've worked in IT for over 10 years and the only time certs have ever become a requirement was when i entered the channel and people started to require the certs to maintain partner status with various vendors

never before have I ever had any pressure to attain a certification, to maintain a certification, or to sit an exam after a course, most companies just dont care, they just need you to do your job

that said i've now had more than one experiance of being told i have to sit the exam by such and such a date, and i've made it quite plainly aware to my boss, the HR people and anyone else that needs to be involved that under no circumstances will i cheat to pass a test, ill require time for study at home, and if i'm not given the appropriate time frame then dont hold your breath! stand up and make noise if you need more time, you have every right to!

I also dont think a nurse attaining an ECDL is that hard or difficult to expect in the 21st century, they do after all do a bugger load of paperwork these days. I maintain an advanced first aid and current CPR certification and I definatly don't require that every day (thank god)

    Whose damning anyone btw UCM?
Our stance against BDs doesnt effect anyone who has so far spoken in this thread, im actually pretty impressed with the openness and common sense shown in this thread so far

Which damages the industry the most,

People who can't do the job because they are useless at doing practical things but brillant at passing exams?

People who are excellent at their job and do not work in the IT industry but are forced by their employers to take an exam in a short space of time in a subject they don't care about?

Or People who are a megalomaniac egoistical chronic bullsh$tters, who will do anything to get their foot through the door in the IT World, just because they saw a Ad on TV that stated IT pays better?

Employers could care less if you can take exams if you can't do the job. If they can't do the job, they'll be fired, regardless of how well they take exams. Problem solved.

If they don't care about a subject that relates to their job, then I can promise you that they *won't* be excellent at their job. Others who *do* care about IT will surpass them and thus, they will be passed over. Problem solved.

Those who believe the ads and they hype and get overcertified without a lick of experience and expect IT to pay better will have a rude awakening when they go for their first entry-level job expecting the big bucks. Problem solved.

For the record, I've never been forced to take an exam to keep my job either. Unless you count the times that I had to take an exam because of my job as a practice exam content developer, but I'd venture to say that my job differs from most IT professionals' jobs.

Ok i'm going to admit to using BDs. Once!

When i first started studying in IT for my A+ i took a course at my local college in South wales. While doing this the lecturer was using photocopied handouts. Nothing unusual there, except that these were BDs froma certain site i shall not mention. I didn't know this until he actual told the whole class to go visit the site and use the questions there for practice. He actually said its a Braindump site!
Now many people there already worked for IT companies and just needed the paper cert because the company told them they had to have the piece of paper for the job. Most of these were ok with using BDs, noone voiced any objections or suggested that it was cheating. Most just saw it as another form of studying and practice tests.
I saw how it was when i sat the exams. I recognised some of the questions as being exactly the same as those in our handouts and on the site. Now i knew most of the stuff needed for the exam anyway having been hands on with pc hardware and windows for the last 5 years even if it was only through hone use and helping friends, and that was reflected in my score, i passed the hardware exam but had to re-take the OS. if i had used the braindumps and took real notice of them i would have had a higher score and passed the OS first time round. Most of those on the course who used BDs did score very high.

Now, since studying for my N+ and getting it on my own with books and practice exams such as transcender or exam cram, and while i study for the MCDST exams i refuse to use BDs, I want to know the stuff not be brainwashed into knowing only a few exact situations that BDs explain. Its no good knowing that if a+b+c the answer is D if you don't know why or what happens if a is missing and what to do about it.

Would i recommend BDs?? its a tough one really. I mean NO you shouldnt use them to pass an exam. But if used in conjunction with reading books, hands on practical work and other practice questions, don't they just become and aid to studying??? Of course the hard thing doing it that way is that you have to try not to memorise the questions!

    Interesting thread this one.

One of the guys I work with went on a training course with a local college and the tutor almost rammed braindumps down his throat from day one. At first there was books being used and a test lab in the office but this slowly started to gather dust and then pdfs (from a certain company) were used on a daily basis.

I didn’t say anything to the guy and then he took the exam (cant remember what MCP is was)and got almost 100%. After a brief chat he told me that the majority of the questions were in the pdfs and even the answers to the sims.

Getting slightly pi55ed off I phoned the college and asked to speak to the tutor and I explained if he was aware of the BDs he was recommending. He said yes but he also said I was in the wrong as no legal action has been taking again the distributer of the PDFs (I’m sure you all know who I’m talking about) and therefore what I was saying was complete BS.

    I almost lost the plot!!!

I spoke to tutor on the phone for around an hour and explained that I am stuck with an employee who will be expecting a payrise at his next appraisal as he is “certified” and I cannot give him extra responsibility as he just doesn’t have the skills to do it. As I am sub contracted IT support I will not take the risk as one mistake can (in some cases) mean a loss of a contract.

Basically I told the guy that his only interest is keeping his pass rates up (everyone passed the MCP easily from what I heard) and he should think about the companies that have to read CVs and wonder if everything on it has been gained legitimately. Basically he didn’t care.

After that I pulled all the other guys out of the training I had lined up for them at the college and left it at that. They now attend at another college which uses legit training materials.

As for the guy at my work who used the BDs he then continued to use them even after I told him not to. I just noted everything down (there was other problems as well) and put it in an email to the MD who sacked him a few weeks later.

I think Microsoft themself are to blame to. I found a site from a microsoft goldpartner who is openly advertising for TK. When I informed MS on this fact, they sated that they did not think it was illegal. So I sended in the article in where TK is being sued by MS corp. I got an answer that they had passed on the limk to the legal office.
    The website? That's still open.

Yawn...this thread is so boring. I can't believe I just wasted 10 minutes of my life reading through it. Every braindump thread on this forum ends up with people saying the same stuff over and over again and its meaningless.

Maybe when someone mentions anything about braindumps refer then to some thread and save yourselves from getting worked up and wasting time ranting about them.

Yes microsoft won...one of my mates mentioned that TK are not braindumps anymore and they state that on their website. So I guess TK are just like transcender or measureup now.

I'd not be so sure about the legitimacy (is that a word?) of their products if I were you. 8)
