Today I was asked to try and retrieve data from a borked systems hard drive. Luckily the drive was okay and was easily hooked up to another system.

Whilst I was making sure the drive was ok and checking all the files etc I came across a folder called TK which had lots and lots of PDFs in it.

They were all Testking PDFs there was:compTIA A+,compTIA N+, MIcrosofts 70-271,70-272,70-270,70-291,70-290 and CCNA related PDFs. I couldn't help but look through some of them before telling my manager. The computer in question belongs to a girl in admin who has applied for a job with the IT dept.

I am wondering should I delete the PDFs or wait until my manager tells me what to do?

I'd ignore them, tbh. You presumably aren't allowed to go through the contents of a hard drive (saying you came across it 'by accident' isn't going to wash). Whilst you or I might consider it bad form for someone to have braindumps on their machine, it's not like you've found a stash of kiddie pr0n or something. Trust me, you are opening yourself up to a world of hurt.

Wait to be told what to do.
Nobody will thank you for interfering.

If it turns into a disciplinary case, they'll want the evidence.

On the other hand, although what she's done may be morally wrong as far as the certification community is concerned, and a breach of the exam vendor's rules - it may not actually be against the rules of your company. It's not like she's been storing porn are racist material.

I was asked to check everything worked though so thats how I came across them.

I willl wait until I see what the manager tells me what to do.

I actually had a look at some of them and whoever wrote the ones I saw cant spell or isn't native to UK so fook knows how someone cheats reading that crap.

Unfortunately 'check everything works' and 'poke through any files you find' are 2 very different things, one ensures the system is functionally ok, the other implies a level of snooping beyond that. Also as others have said she may not have actually violated any company policy therefore making the whole completely irrelevant from the employers point of view.

Best plan, they should have some sort of procedure to follow or at least they can take the flack when it all blows up!

Pattern recognition, doesn't matter if the spellings ****e as long as it fits the pattern of the question and answer your brain sorts the rest for you.

The question that everyone wants to ask, but is to shy to ask is: Is she hot?

    This

I've encountered this on a few occasions. Once (a long, long time ago) I saw someone from a helpdesk get sacked for doing the exact same thing you did (looking through someone else's files on a recovered hard drive). He used pretty much the same get-out that you did (he needed to check the files were intact) but it didn't fly - if he just wanted to check the files were there, then all he needed to do was ensure there were files in the system directories, or (and here's the kicker) check to see whether the reported corrupt/damaged files were in place.

Take my advice, don't say anything.

She's okay looking, she has big tits which makes it hard for her to find a shirt or blouse that she can button up properly. It's very hard not to take a look either when your bending over her desk sorting stuff out for her :D

That's probably why she is/was inline for the job. Still awaiting what the manager is to say.

That settles it then, keep mouth zipped tightly shut, recommend her for the next opening on the help desk.

Too be honest, stuff like braindumps i'd have ignored but it does depend completely on the girl. What you need to bear in mind is that she a) might not realise what they are, b) might not have realised what they are until someone sent them and she looked at them and forgot to delete them, c) never used them anyway.

lol.. It's hardly worth the fuss/thread and it really doesn't matter whether the person is female.. She could have downloaded some (what she thought was genuinely free and valid) material from any of the thousands of sites out there and, as she is new to the IT scene, would be unaware to BD's and how the community feel about them.
I'll admit that I think I used a BD on my very first exam unknowingly, but that was because I hadn't found this site yet and wasn't fully educated (by BM :p) about them. I simply let google help me find some example questions, to which you all know what the search yields..

Personally, I would have left it and lightly brought up a BDs-are-bad conversation should she have got the job. 8)

    100% agree.

You would find it difficult to prove she downloaded the files etc. etc.

Unless its kiddie pr0n or something just as bad then avoid.
