    Hi,

Sorry about the short notice but I have got an interview tommorow. A company I applied for a job with phoned today at four and said could I come for an interview. :D
As tommorow is my first day off it seemed like the logical choice!
    Any pointers appreciated. :D
I would guess around 30 computer users with the usual MS app's.
The add also says VPN experience a bonus, so maybe they link up with their other sites? Does 2003 have this built in or do most companies use other software?

    Firstly, great news Boyce :D

I'd guess it might be more likely that users will be connecting in remotely, rather than inter-site. Windows can easily be configured for VPN access on the client side. It also requires a Routing and Remote Access Server (RRAS) at the "office end" to accept and authenticate incoming remote connections. There are a host of configurable option available in RRAS, but it was a concept I was comfortable learning about.

Obviously this is a quick "top of the head" reply, but I hope it gives you a slight idea. Let me wish you all the very best of luck for tomorrow from CertForums :thumbleft

VPN indicates either they connect to other sites (odd for 30 staff) or the staff connect from home (alot more likely) 2k and 2k3 have this feature, its nothing too fancy though, ISA server has it in a much better form, and SBS 2k3 has ISA built in (well, a semi quassi ISA) its pretty simple to learn, but read up on VPN terminology, have an idea about WHAT your talking about, and WHAT its used for, even if you cant nail the techical stuff in a night (believe me, it cant be done, i've got a few 800+ page books on VPNs and i still have holes and unanswered questions :D

Great news, good luck, and let me know if i can help in any way ;)

Thank you for all the replies everyone.

I should have made myself more clear in the original post.
The place I am going for the job is the main place they also have an office somewhere else in Wales (about 100 miles away) and in England. Perhaps if these remote site are small they wouldn't have any IT staff and hence the VPN? Just a guess.
    Will do some swotting tonight.
    Thanks again

Cool sorry boycey mate, thought you were making a questionable statement not a statement :)

could be they have no IT team, could also be they just want inter site connectivity, and obviously IT folk will need to keep that VPN in check

let us know how it goes mate! :thumbleft

    Good luck Boyce!

I would do a little bit of research on the company too, just so you know a bit about their history and stuff. It would help to prove that you are really interested in working with them, as opposed to just hoping for them to offer you a job.

    Fingers crossed too,

    Pete
